Even if the console business fails with this generation, I think recent Mario/Pokemon iOS events show us that Nintendo can sure as hell continue on, for some time to come!

NOOOOOoOOoOooOo!!

We all saw how bad Sega fell. I think Nintendo will probably ensure things are stable before attempting anything like that.

I do hope this goes well.

To summarise.... it looks pants! Over-complicated, ill-devised and cheaply made shit. I'm sure Nintendo fans will fall over themselves for it, because Nintendo and an excuse for a shit-ton of Mario reboots. Yawn.

Nintendo need to switch their focus to SatNav devices, cos they seem to have no sense of direction.

So.. Not for you, then!?!

I'll be grabbing one, under my usual "3 games first" rule.
I imagine whatever that new Mario game is, will be game #1!
#2 and #3 are currently in the air, but hopefully they'll reveal themselves soon enough.

(Oh, and incidentally.. I wouldn't want a company with "no sense of direction" to be my SatNav manufacturer.. That would NOT end well!!)

I tried to be subtle about it! But no, for me, Nintendo really went off the rails with the Wii.

I never understood its appeal, or the Wii-U, or this.

We bought a Wii for the kids for Christmas about five years ago I would think. They'd played one elsewhere and absolutely HAD to have one. They played with it three or four times, tops. It's been mostly gathering dust since, so we gave it away a few weeks ago.

The first party games for the Wii and Wii U games are fantastic. Yes they are "just" new Mario and Zelda games, but they are made to such a high standard.

I'm looking forward to the Switch, hope its a good price.

"not the next big home console"
If you're referring to those $500 TiVOs from MS and Sony that play the latest Call of Duty and the rest of their libraries could run on an OUYA, then dear god I hope it's not the next big home console. Fuck those things.

Speaking of OUYA, It's funny that all those haters who popped up and said things like "What's the point, it's just a gaming tablet that plugs into a TV" aren't saying the same thing about the Switch, which is EXACTLY a tablet that pluggs into a TV.

I hear that Nintendo will be bringing out two revisions of the Switch in the future. One will be a handheld 3DS replacement, called the Lite Switch. The other will be a smaller, thinner and lighter version that'll fit into your back pocket - called the Switch Blade.

And for those that can't tell the difference Nintendo are considering releasing the Onoff Switch.

Honestly, Spinal, if it were Android compatible I'd want it even more.

I don't think Nintendo is an any sort of SEGA situation. SEGA had like two good years after the Genesis/MegaDrive launch, and then was losing money ever after.
Nintendo always makes money. Sometimes it's not much, usually it is, always there's profit.

It's easy to lose sight of that, but yeah, it's true.
In fact, iirc, GameCube actually did really well in that generation's "war", in Europe, as far as system sales went. It sold really well, and people enjoyed it, but ask people now and all they remember is it was a weird purple thing with a handle!!!

Nintendo aren't in any way "down and out".. but... that's not how the public sees it.

Nintendo can survive on merch alone. They've got a huge array of IPs to trade off of. Even if the Switch fails (which I can't see), then there's always the option of mobile games and remakes/ports for other machines. Nintendo will outlive them all!

Oh, and they have billions in the bank. That always helps!
