Just done the weekend's run of t-shirts on the press, and it's now 41C in my office. I am fucking dying!!

Pretty much that. I have to pour myself into a mould and sit in the fridge for two hours.

A while ago I was sweating and the 'smell' reminded me of what new clothes smell like when you first buy them. I think that is why the places they are made are called sweatshops

I have a 20 year old ceiling fan that still works good though.

I've been thinking about getting a ceiling fam for the last couple of years, especially for the bedroom as restful sleeping is impossible for me when it's even slightly warm.

We bought a portable* air conditioning unit a couple of years ago - proper one, not one of those useless air coolers that you have to put ice or water in. The trouble is, it needs external venting via a long hose, out of a window, and it doesn't really fit into the office space so we have to have it outside the room with the hose out of another window, blowing towards the doorway. But it's a god-send on days like last week, when we had the press running for five hours and printed over a hundred items in a day. Could not have done a session like that without it.

* it's got little wheels so you can shove it around, but weighs a fecking ton so it just lives upstairs.

Yeah, we've got one like that at work (the hose vented one). Do you have to empty the water condenser tub too?

It's brilliant in our office. You don't notice it after a while (other than the noise), but go out and come back into the office and THEN you notice it! Coooooooool

We had one of those ice-cube things and yeah, they're shit.

We've got a Dyson Hot & Cold bladeless fan here at home - it's good, but at the speed and temp I want it on (high) it's loud.

Most of the liquid is evaporated out of the hose - you can empty it if it needs it, but I never have.

I don't mind the noise - I have tinitus (remnants of my band days) which keeps me awake. If there's no aircon or fan or anything on then I have white noise playing on my phone. Cannot sleep when it's quiet

I have permanent tinitus too. It's fucking annoying isn't it? Mine ranges from Niagara Falls to static with rythmic drumming.

Our air-con robot at work shuts off if we don't empty it (once every day or two, depending on use - 24/7 usually). I'm guessing ours is a cheap one in comparison to yours. But it's way better than nothing.

Mine is a high-pitched whine that never fucking stops... like when there's an iffy capacitor or something whistling in an old TV. I've got used to it and mostly don't notice it any more, but once I *do* notice it (i.e. when everywhere is quiet), I can't UNnotice it for bloody ages and it seems to get louder and louder.

I have no whine, but I do have a kind of "fluffy" noise. Like the sort of sound you get rubbing a cotton bud in your ear, but really really quietly.

I also get a whistling and sometimes a fuzzing sound, it's apparently linked to having diabetes in my case. I even went temporarily deaf in my right ear about 6 weeks ago, that lasted about 3 weeks. It was really f***ing annoying too.

Back on the melting thing, I sweat buckets even in winter. That's really fucking annoying too!
