For fuck sake, I was waiting for some prick to come out with something like this. First they blame petrol cars, then they blame Diesel, then they blame both; now the transition to electric cars is beginning they're blaming the fucking brakes. Linkage

Petrol cars don't do many miles to the gallon, that's why I have a Diesel.

Electric's the future, Steve!! Go Electric, already!!!

We looked into getting a Solar Panel Grant thing, a few years back, but apparently our North-South facing house isn't "economical enough"..
*sigh*

I have a 2-litre petrol Civic Type S (160bhp) that does 40mpg. Not far from the 46mpg we got with the 2-litre diesel Mondeo.

The performance difference between petrol/diesel is all but gone.

I'm getting... Just today as well mind, a brand new Nissan Juke, top spec!

I know they arent everyones cup of tea, and the arses on them are a bit pig ugly, but my brother works in Nissan over at Sunderland, and he's getting me one one the friends and family things...

Alan, my Landrover, is getting a bit of a nightmare, seems theres something wrong with him everytime I'm home, not surprised through, hes a 03 plate... So our young'un asked if I wanted a car from there, and after forking out £400 for this aircon box thingy, I decided it's about time I got a new car... I've always drove around in vans, and cars that a specifically there to wreck due to my work... Its about time I got something nice to sit in, and that doesnt rattle!

So, new Nissan Juke, top spec one, 68 MPG, automatic, no tax, 4 people on the insurance... All in at £195 per month!

Alan is staying though, one of my uncles has took a bit of a shine to him, so I've just said "Here, have him for me!"

Am I wrong in thinking we still need oil to make plastics and batteries and other car related stuff? Big oil should be muscling in on the manufacturing side rather than paying off politicians to wipe out electric cars.

Pah.

As Nissans go it looks good, to be fair. Always been a Ford loyalist but the £1100 Focus repair bill followed by the Mondeo from hell, saw to the end of that - never again. Not sure I'd fancy an auto, which is odd since I want a Bentley Continental which only come in auto. Pretty sure that's one dilemma I'm never going to have to fret over, thpugh.

It was odd driving an auto for the first time, but I did like it, made it a bit gokarty!

Obviously, being an auto, you lose a few tricks without the manual gears, the main one I noticed is over taking something when your revs are naff... in a manual, you just drop a gear, hit the pedal, big burst and your away again... With an automatic, cannot really do that, but I was surprised to learn that theres a little button on the "gear stick", that when you press it, it does this gear drop for you and you can floor it past.

Nice touch!

Its also got tons of sensors and cameras on the thing, so parking is an absolute breeze mind, really comfy to sit in (And it has heated seats too), built in sat nav, more ways to get media into it then my desktop PC... I am quite impressed with it really... But to be fair, this comes from a bloke that up until I got Alan, has always classed lecky windows as a "cool gadget", I always seemed to buy cars/vans that had windows you needed to wind up!

Aircon is my must-have car gadget. I dunno how anybody can NOT have it.

Oh, one thing I do miss about the Mondeo - it had 6 variable intermittent wiper speeds. Very useful for when it's raining but not very much. Civic doesn't have that so when its raining and you've got it on intermittent, the blades judder across the windscreen. Or you turn it on and off manually every 30s or so. Either is bloody annoying.

Aircon and variable wiper speeds are definite must-haves for me too. I want to drive without melting and to be able to see where the fuck I'm going in all weathers.

I'm like Dabz where cars are concerned - I know they have wheels and bits that make them go and stop!
