I only played with Bamboo once, but thought it was a nice example of getting away from the horrors of php!

Yeah, I quite enjoyed writing that, had my head in bits mind as I was juggling with four languages in my head at the same time... lol, one of them where I'd, say, be programming in Vala for a bit, shift over to C++, then end up writing a block of code in Vala syntax... Then think ohhhh shit!

I didnt know if it was coming or going! hehehe

I'll dig the old download out when I get in from work, I dont think the source code for the editors will build anymore (Well, they probably will, but you'll have to find old versions of libraries etc etc), but the main Bamboo transpiler thingy should as I think I only used standard C++ for him!

But aye... That was a blast of a project and I really enjoyed doing it!

It was great to test out Bamboo.

Found it...

BambooFull_1_3 (.zip)

The code is a canny size for the editors and stuff, but if you need it, you can visit the sourceforge page here:-

sourceforge.net/p/bamboobasic/code/ci/master/tree/

And I "think" you can download a zipped snapshot of the source files... Good luck building them if you get the urge!

Dabz also made a little known killer 2d engine in DX9 (DLL and source). Sadly, I misplaced that one years ago.

Oh yeah, forgot about him... Aye, that was a good project too... Actually if I recall, I did bolt 3D to it, I had all sorts grafting, but due to me being a complete berk, I never backed up and my toshiba laptop hard drive decided to die on me, taking the lot with it!

I was musing on having a good read up on DirectX 12, see how that works, but, just another thing I'll never get around to!

I take it you're not developing Bamboo any further then Dabz?. Shame though, could have turned out to be a very handy bit of toolage.

Nah, in fact, I do recall getting quite a bit of grief for the project, along the lines of "Well all you've done is wrap PHP"... And I was "Aye, that's the point, der!!!"

PHP is fucking awful.. Pardon my French!

This was from the same people who twist if someone decides to sell something instead of open sourcing it out... They never seemed to realise that probably, they would eventually use products that, erm, wrap C++ and DirectX/OpenGL!

People are funny!

I’ve given up listening to "those" people. They try to be helpful, but at the end of the day it just causes a crapload of hassle.

Barely any of my games are OpenSource (my PMC games being the exception), and None of my sites are.
People can cope. They just like to whinge about it!

I've developed loads of freeware games for the Open handhelds over the years - GP2X, Wiz, Caanoo and Pandora and without a shadow of a doubt some twat always moans when I say I don't opensource my software.

Rather than, "Great game, thanks for giving it to us (and using all your own valuable free time) for FREE and supporting the community", I get "But you do realise you are developing for Open platforms?" "Yeah, I do. knobhead. Did you like the game?"
