Socoder -> Off Topic -> Using ''Notes''

Jay - two things.

1 - If you click on "Send Private Message" from the "Profile" section it wants to create a forum post, not a PM.

2 - I keep getting your Newsletters sent to my very old email address (supanet.com). I've had my gmail account as my email address in my profile for a loooooooooong time. I presume that the newsletter email addresses are stored in a different location to the profile/forum email address. How can we alter that? I know there's a button to ask you to change my email addy, but I only want the Newsletter addy changing, not my forum/profile addy.

1. "Notes" function exactly like forum posts, except they’re only visible to the people explicitly listed.
I should probably tweak that to look a bit more "create a PM" like, but .. that’s what it's doing!
And it does indeed work as expected. Give it a try!

2. Are you receiving the email from Yahoo Groups or Google Groups.
Figure that out first by scrolling way down to the bottom of the email, and seeing if it's banging on about google or yahoo.
From there, you’ll have to sign in to goups.whichever.com, and see if you can find the options somewhere. You might have to sign in with your old email credentials!!
Alternatively, try clicking the unsubscribe link in the email, then resubscribing with the subscribe link at the top.. .. hopefully using your newer email addy!

Hmmmm...

It is a Google groups thing, but I've no idea how it's sending to my supanet.com email addy. :/
Doesn't matter really, my supanet.com account has finally been cancelled after 5+ years of non-use. I'll just subscribe with gmail (which isn't even a new email).

As for the "Notes" thing - it's definitely not as obvious as proper PM.

Yeah, but it was WAY easier to code it that way

It's not even about the coding - the title at the top states "Create new post" and it lists post topics. It makes it sound like you're posting to the forum.

If it had stated Private Message/Note at the top it would be clearer.

Oh, no, it's all about the underlaying code.
SoCoder1 had one database for Forums/Things, one for Comments, one for Newsletters and one for the PM system.
SoCoder2 only has two databases, because I couldn't find a good way to combine the comments with the rest of the things, without breaking hundreds of old comments. Everything else is now all part of the Forums/Things database.
The odd "PM = New Post" thing is down to me having scooped everything up and plonked it back down lazily in one big lump!!

Todo list for the next hour or so.. Eat Noodles, Open LootSocks, then I'll get tweaking the script to make it look a bit more PM like!
Should be done by Countdown time. *fingers crossed*

No rush. No worries. It just appeared confusing. Clicking the green envelope is clearer, but essentially does the same thing.

Cheers

OK, should be less scary, now!
