Subject Matter : Man, that's so fucked up.
I've already sent them £15 from my forever-growing O2 credit amount.. Guess it did actually have a use, in the end.

Non Subject Matter : Yeah, that is a neat effect.. .. 3D vs that? I'd go for that, it's much more impressive.

3D cameras were on the BBCs Click a few months ago. They look pretty good in use.

Haiti on the other hand does look messed up, but I can't help thinking a 3D camera is not going to be very high on their list of aid requirements.

But the 3D cam is good for surveying the damage.

Kinda cool, makes me want to tape together all of the cameras i have and attempting a small DIY project, or just building a rig out of cheap CMOS sensors.

Wouldn't you be able to make it true 3d just by using a couple of views a few degrees apart for each eye?

Um, kinda..
It'd work for the side views, since the camera's panning that way, but if you tried that on the front view, your eyes would be seeing one at point X, and one at X+More X, which is totally off!!

Take 2 screenshots from the sideview and rejoin them R/B style, for a neat 3d effect.

I just tested it at a front view, it works just fine...

I think it'd be hard to make a camera record a 3D scene, without having dozens of cameras everywhere. But perhaps you could generate a 3D environment from a video. You could create a video moving around in the environment, and then a program could piece together each frame to determine 3D locations for each point, and build it out. I think it would work... but be near impossible for moving objects in that video.
