GfK	The woman's voice sounds much better. The guy does indeed sound like a BBC programme announcer. Maybe if you want a male voice you should look for something a bit more.... Santaesque?

therevillsgames	Those samples are for the narrator parts. Unfortunately the lady has priced herself out of our budget, she is now using this website to base her prices off: https://www.thevoicerealm.com/voice-over-rates.php The amount we have now asked for is around 350 words... which is around 6 minutes (if they talk slow) final recording time... $210USD... and thats not including the additional loadings for "character reads"!!! Even if it takes a few takes, lets say it take an hour to do all the recordings... $210 p/h! I'm in the wrong business... again

Ninjinister	$200-ish an hour is a normal rate for higher-end professionals, but keep in mind that sometimes an actor might get like... 3-5 hours of work a month if they aren't in a recurring part in an animated series or something. Also here in the states VAs who are part of a union get butt for benefits (and zero if non-union) and there's actually an active OSHA investigation because a lot of VAs are damaging their vocal chords and such with massively demanding scripts. -=-=- https://ccshgames.com

therevillsgames	Well if they charged less they may get more work per month! We've had the female parts all recorded now and with a couple of takes per line, the whole recording was 7 minutes... and that'll cost us $100 USD. I'm happy to pay a decent amount for the amount of work, and I'm happy to pay someone with the skill... but not rip off prices!

GfK	I think a lot of it is that the VO artists who charge a fortune, do so because of the misconception that the more you pay, the better the job will be, and this isn't always the case. When I had the CS2 stuff done, I paid about $1200 - which sounds a lot but considering that it was for almost 6,000 words it was a bloody good deal. At the end of the day it should come down to who's got the voice(s) you really want. If they're relatively cheap, all the better.

GfK	The guy who did mine said he needed a few days' rest after some of the voices as they really put a strain on the vocal chords. I don't undervalue other people's time but I would never pay a VO artist (or an artist, or anybody) by the hour. When I have a list of requirements I just need to know how much it'll cost me to have someone do it. If it takes them two days or two weeks, is up to them. A ballpark ETA is always nice, mind - I just need to know that from the off.
