Found this. Has pretty good reviews and at four quid it's worth a punt! Paid more than the book's worth for next-day delivery so hopefully it'll give my kid sommat to do in the school hols.

Anything to get the kids into coding is worth a shot and £4 isn't a lot. Hopefully it'll be fun for you all

Yeahh bought a copy for T-bob, he's expressed some interest in coding but a nice book for him would be handy Thanks for the recommendation GfK

I bought it from Amazon at 9ish last night. 8:30am it arrived. How the hell.....??!?!

Anyway...

It's pretty awesome - very easy to follow. I had a quick look at Scratch a few months back and it seemed OK, but I didn't really want my kid going on the internet following tutorials as you never know where they'll end up when your back is turned. She's a little book-worm and loves reading so this seemed a good solution. She's already gone through a couple of the tutorials with me, and I've now been told to bugger off so she can do it by herself.

I think that's good. Right?

Sure!
Going at her own rate, she'll be able to pick things up as she needs to.
If she gets stuck, you're always available to help.

Be sure to keep asking to see what she's been doing, though, as she may be too shy to ask for help herself.

Shy? Aaaaahahahahahahahahaha!

She is definitely not that. Takes after me in that if she's got something to say, she'll say it.

Yep, she's smart. Had an awesome end of year school report for her last week. Above expectations in all 13 subjects and 99.5% attendance. She'll do fine.
