Yeah, my old college-mate Dave's been playing in VR. I'd SO love to give it a go, but even playing it on the telly gave me motion sickness. I think I played about 10 minutes of the XBone edition before giving up trying

But, yeah, VR is definitely meant to be exceedingly good in this game.
I guess because you tend to be in a seat for the entire game.

Didn't even realise it was out on PS4 til I read this.

Already got the PC version and got bored of it - who woulda thunk there'd be fuck-all to do in the vastness of space?? PS4 version is £19.99 but you can't land on planets, unless you buy the enhanced £40 version. I dunno if it's worth it.

Well you still cant land on planets... just moons so far...

They have added quite a bit more over the time... but being in VR in E is amazing, I've gone back to the Sol system was flying past Jupiter! In a word: WOW!

Looks like we're getting Elite for PS4 today. Suggested Cloud Catcher Chronicles to 8yo but nope - she wants Elite Dangerous.

Not sure an 8yo would appreciate the typical slowness of an Elite game. The game might be adventurous, but it sure does take its sweet time getting there!!
Hopefully she sticks with it.
My childhood was filled with Elite adventures, and my teens were pretty much none-stop Frontier madness.
.. Of course, I got naff all coding done for a long time, but still!!

She loves it - we already have the original-non-planet-landy PC version but the only PC we've got that'll run it is my work one and I don't want her going on that by herself as its got access to backup drives, dropbox, NAS and just about everything I've created since 2000. I don't want any accidents.

On another note.... massive No Man's Sky update landing this week.

"You cant land on planets"

Shame the PS4 version doesnt support VR!

Ok, non-moon-landy-version then, Mr Pedantic!

Its just I've been waiting years now for the promised planet landing feature... its on of the things I loved to do in Frontier!

I would like a go of VR, but, the price tag for the setup is wayyyyyyyy to much for me, even the PS4 setup, I couldn't justify the outlay.

And the fact normal reality is a chew why would I set myself for a carry on in a virtual one? hehehe

Seriously though, I know it'll be cool and all, but nah, I think this is one bit of tech I'll skip for a few years yet.

P.S. If I did go for it, I would defo have to have one of them LeapMotion sensors too!

Planet landing is disappointing in No Man's Sky.

Wherever you land, the entire planet is all the same. No climate variances, no vast continents with oceans, no vast oceans with occasional islands, and the temperature change at night is just like flicking a switch - very little in the way of transition. Also little variation in flora/fauna. If you've visited a couple of planets then the other 16 bazillion or whatever it is you'll find nothing that's any different.

I don't want Elite Dangerous to be like that.

I doubt they'd let that happen.
They've had decades of experience making proc-gen worlds.
Once it happens, I'm fairly certain it'll be worth the wait.

FFS... put disc in, 2.5GB update. PS4 says we can play but without "network features", so we try that, then the game says "sorry, upgrade to use network features". As expected, it's completely non-functional without it.

ETA: five fucking hours! :/

To be fair, I *think* the PS4 throttles downloads when you're actually using it, to keep the network free for actual game-related shenanigans. I've chucked it into restmode now as stuff seems to download faster that way, and will give it a check in an hour or so.

|edit| But yeah, you do have to wonder how a company like Frontier can get 2.5GB of shit wrong at launch day.

@Dabz - TBF BITD loading a new game on the 8biits always felt like five fucking hours!!

@GfK - yeah, downloading and installing in the background whle playing a game doesn't seem to affect the game network features at all, so I suspect you are indeed correct.

Fucks sake... It's horrid.

Too many functions crammed into too few buttons. Don't think we'll be bothering with this much.
