ReactOS : Windows Clone!

A windows clone!

https://www.reactos.org/en/index.html
Amazing stuff!
Instead of doing things the Linux way, these guys are building a WinXP clone, which is apparently pretty compatible with Software, and even Drivers created for XP!

Loads of screenshots on the site, ranging from simple Control Panel stuff, through Open Office, IrfanView and Firefox, right on to Quake III Arena and Unreal Tournament.

Maybe worth a try for those of you who like to play with such things..

Looks a bit like any other Linux distro plus a Windows 98 skin (ewww!!! )

But great if this means more work on things like wine and driver compatibility layer stuff.

I wonder how they got Halo working though - all my wine-hacking left me with what looked like a game in 4-colour mode!

Not much in the way of screenshots for Halo, so I figured it probably didn't get much further than that shot!
It'd be nice to know if Blitz runs on it!

Direct X is often too much of a pain to get working. I've tried, (apparently my IE6 running with wine on Ubuntu validates as a genuine copy of Windows, cause I could download it!) but never got very far.

I know someone back at CodersWorkshop managed to get Blitz working in Linux once though.

Next to a free copy of Vista, I'm very skeptical that RactOS is any good. But I've kepy my eye on this for a while. If it achieves very close compatability whilst being faster and offering a few extras (like proper multiple desktop support) then I might be willing to switch.

Especially if it can use Windows drivers, because that is seriously holding back all non-Windows operating systems (except for Mac OS).
