Sony are crossing their fingers with this one!

New PSP slides open, and doesn't have a UMD drive.
Instead, there's 16Gb internal hard drive.
Oughta be plenty.

The thumbstick's in a silly place, and there's still only one of them. And if that's not a touchscreen, they automatically fail.

Looks very incomfortable, 16GB is not enough; original PSP games could be upto 1.8GB in size, I have a 8GB pro duo memstick, and that is so not enough (about 4-5 games)

If you use PSP Iso Compressor they can get down to ~100 meg., but you're right - origianl ISO images are huge.

No UMD drive ?... So if you wanted to play your existing UMD's on it, does that mean you have to copy the UMD to a PC, and then onto a mem-stick, and then shove that into the PSP Go ?

@steve_ancell, I don't think they are going for back compatability

Putting games on the hard drive, wouldn't that leave it open to priracy? You would think that sony would have learnt fro original PSP about piracy problems.

...slide out to protect the controls, not guard the screen... Because we really care about the precious controls

What the hell is sony thinking?! That's one reason why i like a DS, i don't feel like when i travel with it, i'm going to fuck it up. I just really feel like i'm doomed to scratch my PSP eventually, so i guard it like it was my child, And i hate it for that. Maybe i'm just OCD...

In honesty, the 16gb harddrive is a stupid idea. I mostly just carry around my roommates netbook and USBHost to it - zomg, 120gb PSP BUHHHHH.

As far as I'm aware, isn't this still a rumour? We'll have to wait to E3 to actually find out, right?

....Looks fake. However, if it is real, I think Nintendo will win round two. It looks terrible and without a UMD drive how the hell would you buy games for it?

I'm trying to keep off a fanboy rant, since i've said before - I hate them, but if the PSP had just went with a touchscreen to begin with, I believe it would have murdered the DS (well - if they also put some kind of screen protector on it). Once you murder the sony out of it using M33, it's a very good platform to develop for, with many great apps for it. However, it's very counterintuitive without a good input system, which is where the DS really shines for apps that are input-intensive. I couldn't see putting a tracker or any type of paint program on a PSP, but on a DS - it's second nature to move to it from a PC.

Well it's not fake. Sony's been leaking their latest episode of their online magazine "Qore" too early.

I only have Paint.NET, which doesn't do skewing. So someone can feel free to redo this properly.

I prefer the one from Gizmondo

I have reached the conclusion that Sony is now taking part in a competition to make as many bizarre, otherworldly design decisions as possible before the end of the decade.

The question is...
with whom are they competing?

BetaMax was actually a success in certain markets, it's just in the big mainstream home market that it failed.

My main problem with Sony is that their strategies are only to either: a) redo what they did last time or b) copy their competitors. My point is they aren't trying to lead the industry or come out with anything new and ground breaking.

I agree, this design doesn't look otherworldly or bizarre. It looks bland. There's nothing really revolutionary in there.

Well, in fairness, they can't modify the design much to be new or ground-breaking, because essentially the Go has to be the same as previous PSPs: same resolution screen, same processor, memory specs, etc. The only difference is the replacing of the UMD drive with a memory for games, since people didn't really like UMD. But if they made the design too different, it might not work so well with existing games.
