Socoder -> Off Topic -> New Mac woes

So I've had the ol' Mac Mini since 2007 and I've not been able to do any iOS work on it for a while. So, I figured it was time to update it seeing as though Apple kindly updated the Mini recently.

Well, I also grabbed the UK keyboard and the Magic Mouse.

Woe is f***ing me! I'd forgotten that there's no bloody # symbol on the UK keyboard - you have to press alt-3 to get it! Which is crap if you're a programmer

And then there's this weird assed magic mouse thing. Damn, I really do wish I'd gone for the Magic Trackpad instead because this is as twitchy as anything!

Still, at least I can code iOS again. No wait, my builds no longer work! And what's this 64bit mandatory crap now! ARGH!

Hey ho.

And just to cheer me up a bit more - it would seem that the (frankly rather good) Microsoft Remote Desktop app is borked for Yosemite OSX.

That's damned annoying as I can't RD to my work laptop now. Bleh. Bleh. Bleh.

Oh, and whilst I'm still moaning....

What the hell is it with the icon size and spacing on the launcher app? I T ' S L I K E , H E Y ! C A N Y O U N O T S E E T H E S E E N O R M O U S I C O N S ?

Seriously, why do I need icons the size of my house? Those things on a 27" monitor are ridiculous

Wow - I'm on a moaning streak here!

I think the magic mouse is the best thing apple have made. Sure it took a few days to get used to, but the only issue I have with it now, is that microsoft dont support the damn thing. two finger swipe and scrolling in all directions should be supported by all os's, very useful.

I gave up trying to make use of my Magic Mouse, and dug out a good old "proper" mouse, instead!!

Am tempted to upgrade my Late 2010 MacMini, but...
...
Hmmm. Cashflow!!!

Going to persist with the mouse for now, but oh so tempted to use a 'normal' one. Will have to order a US keyboard though - I can't cope without an easy reach # sign

Have to admit, I'm pretty impressed with the Mac Mini performance though. Opted for the 2.6GHz model with the Intel Iris graphics. Everything seems to run lovely and smooth - including streaming games over Steam.

Doesn't Mac OS let you change regional keyboard settings like Windows does?.

I don't have a problem with huge icons, but it would be nice if I could scale the icons to the size I want. Like on Windows desktop, hold down CTRL and move the mousewheel to resize to your liking. Not just enforce an icon size. On a 2560x1440 27" monitor they look, well, stupid.

And from an ergonomics point of view, I have to move back from the monitor so I can scan the whole screen - that's far from ideal.
