Fur rendering

Experimenting with fur-rendering

After messing around for a bit, ending up with this final (for today, at least) image with 1000, 000, 000 hairs (took about an hour to render a single frame), it's clear that I still need some more practice. But, not bad for about two hours work while sick!

Edit: Come to think about it, it actually looks more like the type of fur you'd find on a seal than the type of fur you'd find on a panda. I wonder why? Perhaps I made the fur too short?

I think it's because a) the hairs are too short b) the hairs a too close together (space them out a little) and c) the hairs are too similar (some should be noticably longer than others). Then I think it would look more bear-like.

The seal isn't really covered with hair on most of it's body (or at least doesn't look like it).

Most of the surface on that seal is blubber, so they don't need many hairs.
