I have NEVER had it tell me I actually need to defragment before. One time, there was red all over the place, and yet, "You do not need to defragment this volume." I got this hard drive a few weeks, maybe a month ago, and it's never been defragmented. Makes enough sense. |

| It's always good to defrag, whether it needs it or not..
Just try to avoid too many torrents, 'cos they REALLY eat through your HD's lifespan.

| I believe Vista defrags in the background too. Plus even if there is no option to turn it off, I'll expect you can disable it via a registry key.
@Coders: the defrag appeares to have done very little work because you have so few files on your machine. I wouldn't worry about it and just defrag again in another month.
When solid state drives become mainstream the defrag won't matter anymore.
