Throwing pieces together..

A few weeks ago, a guy at AGameAWeek suggested that I attempt a RolePlayingGame of some sort.

Me vs RPGs usually isn't a good mix, so I've been kinda putting it off, to be honest.
This week, I decided to at least attempt it.
Throwing together a random dungeon maker seemed a nice way to start things off.

It turned out nicely, with walls and rooms and that kinda thing.
Next up, a sprite style.
I went with a Box's Adventure kind of griddybob style, which seemed.. um.... ok'ish!

This was swiftly followed by splattering the level with JSRT generated baddies..

and I'm now throwing in some bits of furniture from my old Quest game that I didn't really finish off about 6 years ago..

I had been planning on this being a semi-sequel to Box's Adventure (hence it's current title of Box's Romp) but... honestly.. I've not a f'ing clue what this game is anymore!

...
Seat-of-your-pants coding!!!

And it's gotta be done by Tuesday...

Box is in, still not sure on the gameplay...!

There's not supposed to be a gameplay, that's the point!
You just throw around some questgivers, and then you write the most awesome quest storyline you can come up with.
What differentiates a good RPG from a bad one is how well the quest storylines are written and whether or not it supports thousands of players playing at the same time.

Looking at your dungeon map: WOAH! Tbh I don't fancy having to walk through one giant dungeon. Make sure something happens as you go through making it more interesting then just 'yet another corridor'.

Although that said, it worked well for Halo.

Don't worry, there's not one dungeon!
There's light and dark areas on the dungeon map above, and the gameplay will be contained in the light bits, so you'll be kept close.
The gameplay's finally forming in my mind, and it oughta be vaguely playable by tuesday... If I can fit all these ideas in, in time!!!!

Scrap that, next week will be this game, and this game's taking too long...

Geeze..

I always feel crappy after giving up on the "In a Week" thing.. Makes me feel like I haven't tried my hardest, even though I know I really have.
.. SUX..

I don't think I could handle that.. I'd become bored, and find obscure uses for a machete.

Change it into a tiny game in 2 days and then a much bigger game in 12 days. Then it'll still be a game a week, but every fortnight it'll be something extra special.

You could also try making a bunch of tiny games over a few weeks, saving some up, then spend time making bigger games over each fortnight.

Or something to that effect.
