Pirate Bay Lose. Pirate Bay Stay Open

Pirate Bay's 4 founders have each been jailed for a year.
In the meantime, since nobody seems to know where the servers are, Pirate Bay's staying open.

Justice for Anti-Pirates, but bad news for those who prefer to watch TV via Torrents!

Tell me how any of the above are different... The media industry has brought this so called 'problem' on itself, by creating the means to do it in the first place.

|edit| I have never in real life actually seen a minidisc album, so I assume the ONLY way to actually use a minidisc player is through piracy... good one sony. |edit|

In many ways, the comparison of Other Recorders is mostly true. It's the 100,000 seeds that's the issue!
You copy a tape for a mate at school, they copy it for their mate, and so on.

It's going to reach, maybe 100 kids..?
If they sell 1 in every 100, that's not too bad.

But 1 sale x 1,000,000 peers.
It all adds up.
It's pretty bad news.

Best thing to do, stop worrying about them. Enjoy the free things in life. Listen to Podcasts with free music, watch TV with adverts, and play Homebrew games... Say f'k you to the lot of 'em, by demonstrating the fact that you don't need 'em!!

 		Something to add to the list Spinal: libraries.

This news* is receiving a lot of attention in the media of Sweden right now. The defence is going to appeal, meaning that this decision is far from final. With the recent IPRED law in the country, the ISPs say that they have noticed a substantial decrease of Internet traffic due to many having stopped downloading. There has been much discussion about this law too, since it more or less allows the big companies to legally blackmail citizens, demanding money or a costly trial. Guess what the frightened single-mom of a couple of twelve-year-olds picks.

In addition to the Pirate Bay servers still being alive, they are also launching an anonymity service, Ipredator, so they're definitely still alive and kicking. I doubt that the film/music industry can beat this.

* Stupid English has no decent way of saying news in singular form.

 		I still stick with the same line, developers/artists shouldn't pay any attention to piracy because pirates aren't and never will be customers. Just because they can't pirate, does not and never will mean that they will go out and buy. Also people who do buy media don't bother to pirate, those who do 99% of the time go out and buy the thing they downloaded anyway. A lot of people (genuine customers) pirate because they can't get the media in their own country yet and buy it anyway once id does come out, or they have already bought it and the copy protection is all f*cked up and they cant use it without jumping through six million hoops.

But I work in an off-license, and BOY do I hear the exact opposite of that, spewing from the mouths of.. Well, pretty much every damn customer that comes in.

"I got my Xbox chipped.. I can get games for £5!"

"FFS, some f'ker's getting £5 for someone elses work?"
Customer - obviously completely oblivious to the cost of anything.
"It's on a dvd...!"

 		Piracy is hurting the various media industries, but because it is easier to download music/video/game for free then to purchase it. In many cases it even requires less time and mouse clicks then buying it online.
