Been a while since I watched one, but Joe Mallozzi's blog (writer for Stargate) got me reminiscing.

Mmmm..
Storylines that follow through!!!

What are your faves?

Joe picks his top 25 from what can only be described as a ginormous collection of dvds!!

Evangelion and Ghost in the Shell rule. They are the best. Cowboy Bebop wasn't that great; I personally think it's way overrated. Ninja Scroll, Trigun and Death Note are others that were good.

Cyber City (which isn't on the list) is a personal favourite of mine. And of course Akira.

Mog

Here's my pick:

Ghost in the shell
Lupin III
Battle Angel Alita
Fist of the north star
Detroit Metal City
YuYu Hakusho
Escaflowne

I'm on the fence about Cowboy Bebop. I loved it on up until the end- then i was left with a bitter taste in my mouth. For those who've seen it will understand but Seriously guys? Both of them? Fucking cop-out....

Also feel that way about Ghost in the shell: SAC, the ending seemed rushed...

I agree, it was a real anti-climax. But it does fit the whole SAC world perfectly.

I don't watch anime, but I really should give it a shot. What's the best starting point?

Get a series, watch it, end of.

One thing that's really good with anime (and not so good with western TV) is that because it's all animated they can have less cheap talking sections. This means the plot can revolve at a much higher pace, which in turn is more exciting.

I'd personally recommend Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex or Neon Genesis Evangelion. Both are very highly rated and critically acclaimed. You'll love them, like them but prefer something else, or hate all anime.

Code Geass is another excellent series.

Another vote for Neon Genesis Evangelion. The ending of that is a bit.. um.. ... .. urm.. .. But you'll love it!

Cower

I like a lot of anime, so let's see how many I can remember..

Monster
Gurren Lagann
Eureka Seven
Fullmetal Alchemist (both series)
Daughter of Twenty Faces
Ghost in the Shell
Code Geass
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
Hellsing
Trigun
Kimi ni Todoke
Cowboy Bebop
Battle Angel Alita
Fist of the North Star
Toradora
|edit| Berserk |edit|

I haven't finished watching a few of them (Ghost in the Shell, Zetsubou Sensei, easily haven't finished Fist of the North Star, and probably one other but I can't remember which), but I generally finish watching everything I like. Also, unlike most people, I hate Evangelion. I honestly don't know how people can enjoy that trainwreck of a show.

I second most of Noel and Mog's lists, especially Fist of the North Star. Now that's a manly show.

I also add:

Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku (The Legend of Koizumi)
Great Teacher Onizuka
Slayers
Yakitate!! Japan

Oh yeah, I totally forgot to add Yakitate. Can't go wrong with that.
