It is nice handheld but the downside of it is so bloody Expensive!

Could anyone care to explain to me why Pandora Handheld is so expensive?

The nice high def screen, all those buttons, the joypads, tv output...
there's a hell of a lot inside a Pandora.
Price wise..
If you had ALL THAT in a phone, it'd probably be about 3/4 the price for the phone. (given that, a year after release, the Pandora's processor is already showing it's age)
The phone's cheaper because it's massively mass produced.
Pandora's got a decent production line, but it's not in the same league, so you kinda get the price going up because of that (or rather, not going down!)

And.. um.. trying to make the nicest comment that I can about The ND, so..
..
um..
"The ND makes Socoder look professional."

According to this (Linkage) the Pandora is 500 USD, that's like 310 GBP, and that's without the VAT. Like f*** would I pay that for it!.

If that ND console ever sees light of day, I would rather tinker around with that.

It would be cool if ND Console ever release then I would buy them for $20 which is bloody cheap compare to Pandora price!

You can't compare the Pandora with the ND. They are totally different machines and aimed at different markets.

Besides the ND is just a pipe dream at the moment.

The Pandora is expensive, but it's also unique. I waited two years for one. And then gave up. To date it is still the only open-source machine with full gaming controls. No other mass produced machine can offer what it can. Shame the product is/was so shoddy. I haven't followed it for a while now.

Whether it's behind in the specs dept is not really relevant/important when there is nothing else quite like it. Especially since it can do everything it set out to do.

I must admit though that i was disappointed that most users only wanted it to be an emulation station. I personally stated that this was the wrong way to go - yes, sure emulation is great, but use it's uniqueness to its advantage - make games and apps for it that can't be seen, done or played anywhere else. That didn't go down too well on the forums.

Yeah, I kinda hate that angle, too.
Happens with DS Homebrew, too.
You see some fantastic homebrew out there, then the big "Best homebrew of the year!!" lists come out, and they're all either emus or yet another fucking port of Doom!
ffs!!!!

Pandora probably was at one point early in it's conception!.

Pandora makes me say "oooh, cool" but I don't think I'd ever buy one because it'll have an Atari JaguaR-esque selection.

nD...if it ever exists, I might pick up just because it's so cheap (supposedly). Maybe make custom games for gifts. That sort of thing.

Pandora probably was at one point early in it's conception!.

Actually Pandora was a pipe dream for about three years - two of which I waited for my pre-order!

I really hope we see the ND. It looks like a fantastic little device. While the creator believes he can get it down to a price point of $20/£20 (whatever) I really doubt that price-point. I'm not sure he's counted distribution costs, packaging, the retail cut, production costs, fluctuations in component prices, Quality Control, returns etc. into his figures. So while his intentions are good, I'd be surprised to see it finally on mass-market sale for less than double his quotes. But I'd buy it (on the promises of open source homebrew etc.) even at twice the price

I also think the price is unrealistically low, but it should do well as long as the price stays below £150, but not so low that it makes potential customers think that it's a bit low quality!.

It also needs some sort of themed gamepack and a mascot or something!.
