I used to have dreadlocks. They look awesome when they have been trimmed, but unless you do this regularly, they can quickly become a mess.
I also got lots of people stereotyping me. Drug user, anarchist, hippy, that I hung around in Games Workshop, and worst of all: vegetarian.
I still have mine in a box on my top shelf.

I'm a vegetarian 
I have not had any abuse yet but after having long hair for years you get used to it.
There is a lot of banter with my team at work however, I got an email with a pic of sideshow bob within 10 mins of logging in to my PC at work | |

In those pictures, I have to agree with others. But when there is a bit more weight in them, and they are still trimmed, and you see them from the front, they can look waaaaaay better then long hair.
But to have really good dreads, you need to look after them every week.
