Socoder -> Off Topic -> Batch Recolouring Images

Anyone know of a free and easy Windows image program that can import a picture and alter it to a palette of around 20 user-defined colours? That's all it needs to do. I've got GIMP but would prefer something a little less bloated.

Irfanview's wonderful for things like this..

1) Open your palette.png image, and Image/Palette/Export Palette. save as palette.pal

2) Inside the source/destination folder, make a recol/ folder, where the recoloured editions will end up.

3) Command Prompt! Head to folder, and..

(Tweak the filenames as required)

Then let it do it's job. Should be just fine.

Command Prompt? In this day and age?

Hmmmm. Finally got around to trying this and the "Export Palette..." option is greyed out and not accessible. It can import a palette but not export.

I'm using V4.38. What version are you using?

Here's the palette file I was hoping to use

|edit| Ah. OK. I had to reduce colour depth to custom (32). I can now export.

Be sure to save the png as a 256 or less colour image, not a 16/32bit one.

Yeah, I just edited my post, literally just before reading yours.

How do you actually "SAVE AS" a 256 colour or less .PNG? I can't see an option.

|edit| Reduce Colour Depth (which I used a second ago). D'oh!

All sorted. Works without Command Prompt - just load the image and then import palette and jobs a good'un.

Glad it worked out!

As I have to do images one at a time for my new game, there's no point in batch converting. But that may well come in handy in the future.
