Well shove me in an Audi TT and call me Detective Spooner... I said it more than once and I say it now, I'm predudice about robot cars.

This self-driving car bullshit needs to stop. Companies rushing like hell to get tech out there way before it's ready and sooner or later it's going to kill people. If it hasn't already.

Are we to reach a point where somebody gets run over and killed by one but the law says nobody can be held accountable for it?

The problem currently is that we really do need to test and build the technology, but giving "beta AI Driver" directly to the consumers, is a fucking nightmare.
These are "12 o’clock flashers".. those who can’t figure out how to reset their digital clock after a powercut.
You can’t give this tech to those people, and expect greatness!!

Maybe have a new, third section to the drivers license.. "practical", "theory" and "basic AI understanding, with the ability to know when to hit the brakes if the computer's being a prick.."

... granted, that last one's got a bit of a lengthy title..

The Tesla autopilot thing isn't even meant to replace the driver and I've always had this worry with driving aids like traction control, ABS etc - what if the driver's been relying on them for so long, he can't remember how to deal with situations when the technology fails, or when he has to drive a car that doesn't have them?

And this really just confirms that we are too reliant on technology these days - expecting it to do our thinking for us.

I do like the foresight of a car stopping itself before hitting a loved one becourse the actual driver is to drunk or angry(!) for any reason to do so. A friend from my youth said to me a number of times that he would not brake if a accident was going to happen if it was not his fault. He gets a kick out of it I guess. I heared a few years later he was in the hospital with a broken back(car accident)

A person hit the cat of my parents a few years ago and I saw it happen. The driver did not look that intelligent tbh. A number of cars make it a game racing on the street here.

It's funny... I've been out of my car to three idiot drivers in recent weeks. I have no tolerance with stupid, disrespectful people or bullies, and bad drivers generally fall into all categories.

The most recent one - never had a car tailgating so close in 24 years of driving - literally 2-3 feet away at 30mph, then the clever fucker tried to overtake me when I indicated to turn right. Got out and bollocked him and he denied even doing it!*

Still haven't got a dashcam.

But yeah, no amount of technology is going to make them appear more intelligent than a baked potato. They just shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a road.

* missus goes apeshit with me over it cos she reckons I could get stabbed or owt. But I got bullied to fuck at school and I swore to myself when I left, that it stopped there and then. Luckily being 6ft3, built like a brick shithouse and shouty as fuck, generally gets me by.

So, in general.. Maybe don't give this tech to morons who aren't capable of watching the road themselves..

I know a bloke built like that, he has to duck when he walks through doorways.

Not quite that tall! But if I stand on tiptoes my head hits the top of the door frame.

When we moved house a few years back we looked at an old cottage. It was awesome - apart from the low beams and ceilings. Where the toilet was I literally couldn't stand up for a piss.
