40p per sheet?!! Yikes!!
Any cheaper Bulk, on Amazon? ... But then you'd probably end up with a bazillion sheets, and would have to code more games!

lemmie see what the costings would be for production.

10 pcbs - ~£40 when import tax is applied
10 grey cartridge shells - £25
10 plastic dust covers - £5
10 capacitors - £0.20
10 dip8 tiny 13a chips - £5
20 main chips ( 2 per cart) - £10.50

So before any printing is done, we're looking at.... £8.57 per cart for parts alone.

eBay listings tend to put UK P&P at ~ £3

Bringing it up to £11.57

Let's guess the costs for printing the rest in-house.

So, a3 cart box - pfftt around 50p when the ink is included ( maybe an a4 variant might work out better / cheaper)
Probably around the same for each manual, they're small so smaller easier paper can be used yeah, 50p
And the label. let's say 50p again. |edit| 5p more like |edit|

So to break even they'd have to sell for £13.07 £12.62

But, paypal like to take a percentage ~ 3.4% + 20p. ( roughly 65p )

Bringing it up to £13.7213.25 to break even per cartridge.

Obvs there's time spent burning chips, soldering and construction but it's more a "can i do this" at this point.

But, let's not forget, once I've gotten the hang of producing these myself, it becomes a lot more fun hopefully

Honestly it's more for those childhood dreams than making monies.

40p for A3 isn't bad. I may adjust my template to use 2 sheets of A4 instead though if it cuts component cost down,

|update| -=-=- |update|
Yeah, they cost a bit less back then mind, scale of production reduces costs a lot.

So, cartridge labels, they worked out REALLY Well!, pics on the link.

Also, way cheaper to print out, (removes 40p from the cost per cart)

Right, did a lil blank test with some 150gsm matte paper tonight and it's just way too thick. I need to find something more around 100gsm, with a slight lustre to it...on both sides....

Gonna head over to the printers nearby tomorrow and ask them for some advice again regarding paper, might take along the box, manual 'n' stuff also.

Got most of the manual made up though now!

No joy from the printers but I did pick up some similar A4 300 gsm card so sorted out an A4 template tonight, it looks pretty much identical to the A3 one but with one extra join. Ehhh, it's just not the right paper, needs semi-gloss and possibly an extra 50gsm of weight. Yes, I am picky aren't I

Thankfully, it seems that the peeps at work found something that might be workable, Image Color Digital Paper, apparently it'll give more vibrancy but supposedly can't be used with inkjet printers...I guess I'm just going to find out how true that is tomorrow.

They also found some low gsm double sided satin paper which may be my saviour when it comes to printing manuals.

The paper guillotine doesn't take kindly to heavier paper though, it leaves a bit of fluff along the cut which is a tad frustrating. will just fall back to the metal rule and craft knife instead.

Think I've found the paper I need, Image Digicolor Silk in 350gsm weight for the box and 100 or 130gsm for the manual. I'm tempted by the thinner stuff though.

Both are double sided which is great!

Found my old willem parallel port chip programmer last night. Along with an ancient sony vaio laptop with said port... Things began to happen today after a quick trip into town to purchase a bedside table for only £5!

I was able to burn the chr-rom and prg-rom a okay onto the chips, but sadly it needs an adapter for the CIC chip (a tiny13a variety)

Still, I was able to solder the chips I could burn onto the board, along with capacitor. Just need to find the right board add-on!

I did rather in vain bung the cartridge in the NES anyway, the NES promptly spat it out as if to say.no, where's my security chip buddy.

It's so frustrating to have almost all of it there, but not the last little bit

I'm not sure. I've asked around a few places without much luck, done some research on other chip programmers... also, not much luck :/ Gonna chill out with some minecraft for a bit while I ponder about it
