Taking part in a mini Ludum Dare for the rest of this month, where you are tasked with making a game which could have anything as a stylesheet.

They are all 16x16 sprites, in a 128x128 grid so, it's got some consistency.

First time I've done anything 2D for a while, or purely generational for that matter.

I have to have the game finished before May 30th as part of the rules though, so,hey, I'll be in a situation where I have to finish making a game for once, yay!

So far I've got the basics in, movement, maze generation, collectables, health pickups, and enemy spawners. Just need to add the actual enemies next then do some level generation stuff.

Thinking along the lines of a very, very basic version of gauntlet.

Added some rather lovely chiptune music tonight from opengameart.org, ran a midi through a program which just converts it into chiptune music, fantastic stuff!

Ended up playtesting for most of the evening after that, between getting some balancing issues sorted out of course.

Still need to add a wall breaking charge shot just in-case the player is trapped off from the last few bits.

Thinking I might make it a daily thing, as in it'll generate a different dungeon each day. Might to go beyond the mini ld version to add more bits to it though!

Oh scope, how you expand....

"Daily" is tricky. With locale based calendar names, alternative calendar types and those darned timezones, it's hard to make a working "worldwide" system. (This is essentially why NeonPlat Adventures iOS never saw the light of day)

I've recently taken to a numerical system for pseudo-generated levels, instead.. Let folk play 000-999, and they're happy enough!

Hmm, that might be a better plan of action. It'll allow me more time to add more enemy types also, which is possibly a good thing.

By the way, nice concept on the level system for Spike Dislike 3, 3 tries then you can skip to the next one if you like is pretty neat! Prevents players from needlessly repeating a stuck on level time after time, which is really nice.

Not been feeling like developing recently, which is never a great feeling.

But managed to add a charge shot into the game tonight and make walls destructable, which is nice.

Gotta get out of this lazy funk I'm in at the moment.
