Socoder -> Festive Threads -> Making the Platdude Xmas Xard - 2016

Merry Christmas!!

This year's Xmas Xard was created with just a few simple bits and pieces. .. But I certainly won't be using this technique again, next year.

.. Well, ok, maybe. But I'll need to get things easier when designing.

Downloadable Blitz3D code

The design is mainly a 2D one, but with multiple "layers" to create the 3D-ness.
"drawn.bmp" is loaded, and processed, as 64x64 frames, with frame 1 being at the front, and frame 100 being at the back.

Atop that, a bunch of snow plains are placed at certain intervals, as well as a bunch of mostly transparent spikes (DISLIKE!) and a whole bunch of trees.

Once everything's placed into the world, the camera is movable with cursors, WASD and the number-pad, to allow for a whole bunch of different camera angles.

With that in place, it's a simple case of finding a good camera angle, then hitting Escape to quit, and finding the finished out.bmp in the folder.

Nice and easy!

Drawing the multi-layered artwork was SUCH a pain in the arse, though. I definitely need to organise that better, next time I try this.

It may have been a hassle, but the end result was well worth it.

Merry Christmas. Everyone.
