Ups

What did you get done this week.
  • 2 games
  • Socoder tweaks
  • A half finished game
  • The same half finished game on the iPod!

Did everything turn out as planned?
Indeed it did, and I'm surprised I got so much done on the iPod, considering how fucking awful it was trying to get it to do ANYTHING!

    Downs

    What didn't you get done?
  • A bigger game...

    Why not?
I know it's silly to say, given that I've practically done 4 games this week, but I haven't had time to do a proper "Week-long" game, and that's a bit depressing.
Additionally, my mum's now officially nicked my DS, so no more WarioWare for the interim.
    Bugger..

    Now

What are you working on right now?
I've just now managed to get audio playing in my iPod game.

    How's that going?
    uuughh...

    Next

What's the plan for the week ahead?
  • Finish the game off
  • Send it to Apple
  • Read the list of 1,000 reasons why it'll no doubt be rejected.

More graphics for the news website I work for and future graphics they need.

As far as game making, that may have to take a turn since my IDE drive is failing and the big store FRYs Electronics sells only two models since IDE is going out and SATA is here.

Too pricey the remaining two models.

I would've filled this in on Wednesday, but I hadn't really done anything then. Got quite a bit more free time now, though...

    Ups

What did you get done this week.
  • Exams! (they are over!)
  • Finished second pass of backend of current project (so this time I can start work on the meat of the thing!)

Did everything turn out as planned?
Pretty much. Exams went well, and with this backend stuff sorted out, I have a reusable interface system that I should be able to use in future projects!

    Downs

    What didn't you get done?
  • Productive use of time.

    Why not?
I could have been a bit more productive with my time, but I got distracted a little bit by various things. Still, feeling much more relaxed and therefore work-inclined now that exams are over, so hopefully I can get a bit more done before Work Experience next week.

    Now

What are you working on right now?
    Coding.

    How's that going?
Very well, although I've already covered all this up there^^^.

    Ups

What did you get done this week.
  • Started work on a new programming language
  • Received degree results
  • Moved lots of things around
  • Got very sunburnt

Did everything turn out as planned?
After doing lots of work on campus I thought I'd go for a long walk and try to get a bit of a tan. It's hot and sunny here, but I don't burn that easily and didn't think it was that hot or that sunny. How wrong I was as I'm currently in quite a bit of pain. Although at least my face isn't burnt.

The programming language is for a project me and my brother are starting. I started it purely because I didn't feel like doing my standard work, however it's been going better then expected. I've used CUP before for compiling a grammar and usually ran into lots of issues, but instead I'm currently using JS/CC (a compiler compiler for JavaScript) and it's going excellently. It's certainly not as powerful or feature complete as CUP, but it's excellent in a simple and straight forward way.

The moving items is in regards to moving some of my stuff to my new place (which I'm moving into next month) and helping a friend of mine move out of his place. It's got me to face up to how much stuff I have and how I'm going to move it, which is good. But still have lots to move!

Finally my marks were excellent, but not as excellent as I had hoped. I've won one award for them and might be nominated for another. I predict I will win the nomination, but won't win the award.

    Downs

    What didn't you get done?
  • StudioFortress site
  • StudioFortress business plan

    Why not?
Just haven't got around to it. I've either been genuinely too busy with other things, or have just decided to do other work instead.

    Now

What are you working on right now?
    Paid Greenfoot work.

    How's that going?
Ran into an unexpected issue with the Greenfoot work, but at least it gives me more stuff to put on my timesheet. However I'll be glad when I've moved onto something else. It's not that my current task is bad, it's just that with me doing very little work during the exams it feels alot like it's been dragging on and on. Moving to something else will revitalise my enthusiasm.

    Next

What's the plan for the week ahead?
  • Help out at University open day.
  • My business plan.
  • New StudioFortress site.
  • Moving more stuff.
Tomorrow I am being paid £50 in Amazon vouchers to show off my third year project at an open day. Typically I feel I definitely should do this sort of thing, whilst also being typically nervous about it. I have the attitude that you shouldn't give in to fear or insecurites, and that it'll be good for me in the long run. But on this occasion I'm really dreading it because I don't think my third year project is that great to present. It's a simple game framework that automatically parrallelises your game. All of the real work and achievements are complex and internal; characteristics that are fine for project documentation and the technical report that I had to give in (which is what also gave me the marks, not in the product itself).

The issue is that I can't really talk about process orientation or pipelining to a group of A level students as they wonder past; it'll be too much and confusing. The examples were meant to be written by someone else who never delivered, so I quickly knocked three of them out over a weekend and they have now become the flagship of the project. Actual examples where people can see it working, even though I consider them to be some of the worst looking things I've ever written. I don't like presenting things that I don't believe in.

For the business plan it's comming up to crunch time and I intend to have it written and signed off by the end of the comming week.

The other things should be done only if I have spare time.

    Ups

What did you get done this week.
  • Lego Stop Motion
  • A bit of my user system

Did everything turn out as planned?
Not really. I was planning to have the user system done today.

    Downs

    What didn't you get done?
  • User System

    Why not?
    Lazy.

    Now

What are you working on right now?
    Writing this post, being bored.
    How's that going?
    Pretty good.

    Next

What's the plan for the week ahead?
  • More lego stopmotion
  • stuff to do when I'm bored.
  • User System.
Going to my cousins' new house on Tues; don't want to, but at least it'll be something to do instead of being bored.
