So, the other day I downloaded some new updates from Mircosoft. Fine, whatever, routine. Requested a restart, and i complied. When the computer reboots (goes through the windows loading screen and all), it just goes all BSOD on my ass after finishing the load.

Crap.

The message only says "Header checksum does not match file checksum user32.dll: File might be corrupt". Thanks dawg, glad I've got a corrupt system file. And of course, I'm unable to boot into safe mode in order to replace that one file because its still dependent on user32.dll...

So, i decide that a windows repair is the best option. Slapped the disk in the drive and bring it up. Wait, Enter, R, Enter, Enter, Wait, and its done unloading all its files. Reboots, gets into the unpackaging screen thing. It's installing all my devices and then 2/3 way through, it stops. It sat on that position (with an eta of 33 minutes) for an entire 24 hours before i just said "screw it" and did a hard shutdown and reformat. Luckily I put my windows install on a separate partition, but i still had to reinstall some programs which were dependent on registry keys, along with the drivers for my NIC, GFX Card, Sound, etc. What a bloody hassle.

Next, I decided since I'm in the mood for reformatting, that I would install Windows Server 2003 Standard on my other computer, maybe set up a domain and play around with it. But, what do you know, the main drive isn't being recognized! I've got two drives in there, a SATA-1 drive with 111 GB, and a IDE drive with 2.98 GB. Guess which one it wasn't recognizing? That's right, the SATA drive. Which is especially weird since I could still boot into windows, I just was unable to reformat that particular drive, the one that I wanted to reformat. So, I decide "Ok, there's just enough space to install server on the IDE drive, I'll do that for now, and then it should recognize the other drive. Worse comes to worse I'll just use the IDE drive as the system drive".

Ha. I boot into the new install on the IDE drive of Server, and it still doesn't see the other drive. Anyway, i give up for the day, I'm too tired of this bull to want to mess with it more.
