Over time it could have its uses.

An extremely long version of it could be handy in rescue missions, could even be useful for investigating hard to reach car engine parts with a camera attachment, or even for removing parts without removing the whole engine where it is inaccessable by the human arm.

I might even do further research to see if it's possible for someone like any of us lot to build something similar. I'm not sure if whether or not it's an open source thing though.
