I've come to a conclusion, cars are a fucking nuisance.

This is a Vauxhall Astra DTi MK4, It's kind of on it's last legs; excuse the pun. I will hopefully be getting another car during April so I will just run this one into the ground now.

Bloody thing keeps losing power, and the fact the breaker's yard sold me the wrong gearbox when the original on seized up didn't help either. After fitting the gearbox I found out that the prat had sold me one from a Zafifa 16 petrol, not exactly the box for mixing with a Diesel engine. On the motorways it's doing 3250 RPM at 70 MPH, and that's what fucked the engine in the first place I reckon.

I would have taken the box back out and got an exchange but it was a pain in the arse to fit in the first place, plus I had already fitted new driveshaft seals which cost over 30 fucking quid. Once the seals are fitted they can't be reused in another gearbox.

|edit| I've been running with that gearbox for about 2 years, it's fine around town but chuggs out a lot of smoke sometimes when I get past 50 MPH. To put it in perspective the old gearbox was doing 2500 RPM at 70 MPH, 3250 at 70 is 750 RPM difference and that's really not good for a Diesel engine. |edit|

My dad owned that car from new and I've owned it for the past 6 years, it was a good car until a year after the original gearbox broke. I've owned quite a few Vauxhalls and never really had any major problems. Like any car, If it's not maintained it will fuck up good and proper before it's 15 years old. I know it's easy for other to say "well bloody well get and maintain it then", but they don't seem to realise that not everyone has the money to do it that regularly.

|edit| Plus it's done over 142,000 miles, so I guess I can't complain too much. The seats in those Astras are really fucking uncomfortable though. |edit|

Dave, the Vectra and the Zafira are the most crap to my knowledge. I know a few people that have had those two models and had nothing but problems.

I love my freelander... But it's been a pain... Cost a bomb to sort, but, she's my ickle sidekick now... Only a couple of things to do with her though, which is my own daft fault:-

1) new ariel... Forgot to take it off when I took her in the car wash
2) new back door handle required... She was having one of them "I want it doing now" episodes regarding a TV bracket in the bairns room, a week before Christmas (the TV was a present)... So I went "RIGHT... I'LL DO IT", in a strop I bombed to the local DIY shop for a piece of timber for a nogging, chucked it in the boot... And drove back to hers... Now, I have a boot liner in the back, and little did I know, it got nipped into the door opening mechanism, pulled up outside hers, got out, went to open the boot... Wouldn't budge... Give it a good auld yank while muttering unpleasantness... And aye, thing ripped off in my hand... I just looked at it in disbelief!!!

Quick search on eBay rolls in at 90 English bot smacks for one!
