The Official Socoder End of Year Survey

26th December 2006

1. The MUD, and the Forum. I haven't even looked at most of the rest.
2. Apart from the MUD, everything is pretty good. I'd like some better smilies, but that's just finding some, isn't it?
3. The blog. Go open a website. Or the notepad. I have any numbe*snip*

Post your portrait!

26th December 2006

I do have a couple of photos of me... but none from the last year.
@blanko: You look like one of the Beatles, maybe Paul?
Which reminds me: Does anybody think that James Brown fellow who died the other day looked like the cat from Red Dwarf?

Site Problems

18th December 2006

There's a lot of difference between normal broadband (DSL, Cable etc) and a fibre(-ish) connection. It might be alright with 30 users... but what happens when you have 300 users? It's like peeing on a bushfire to put it out... there's not enough to go arou*snip*

Google Promotes FireFox!

I bet that damn google toolbar is just a means by which they can grab all the spare cpu time in our computers, SETI style, and then use it against us.

The coolest programming language ever!

Well, your code beats mine... :)
Before I scrolled down, I simply expected the program to output the health warning with a note: 'Don't be so silly.'
Lol.

Blocking sites from school.

13th December 2006

Our school and a few others around near us use GetBusi, a form of Squid.
I believe it's best not to bother blocking sites. If a student chooses to go to a site, let them suffer. It's not the school's responsibility to bring up the kids so sheltered they d*snip*

Smilies in post-writing form

12th December 2006

Alrighty. I'm working on the blog for my website, and I run into a problem. Does anybody know a way in which you can have a series of buttons along the top of a post-writing box, and when you click on the button it inserts the relevant text? I'm sure every*snip*

No Floppy drive!

12th December 2006

I solved that problem by getting all my old floppy disks and creating images of all of them, and then burning them to CD.
Does anybody remember the ads for those Zip disks? "A whole room of paper... 72 floppy disks... or 1 Zip disk." Wow, there was someth*snip*

RTS Idea

10th December 2006

@Devil: When I said that it'll be hell to implement, I meant mainly figuring out the logic of technology trees, and coding the enemy AI. Especially in a more civ-like RTS.
I've decided that this civilisation-like RTS idea is actually a decent enough one t*snip*

RTS Idea

Those ideas sound really good, and I like them a lot (I've had a lot of similar ideas myself at times). It'll be hell to implement though.

The most complex example of BrainF**k code I've ever seen is a Towers of Hanoi program (found in dark depths of Wikipedia links, somewhere). It's pretty obvious nobody ever intended this to be used seriously.
