Advent of Creativity - 2018

13th December 2018

I'm coping alright... although not having a lot of time these last few days! Turns out internet was plentiful on holiday and I had plenty of downtime to make a robot in many stages, but now I'm back at work (and with plenty of other stuff going on *snip*

Day 12: Fiiiive goooollldd rinnnnggssss!
i.e. Make a torus, slap a gold material on it, duplicate it a bunch - quick and easy! But in an attempt to at least be a bit creative, I also bunged in a shiny wooden floor to reflect the rings a bit, and made ever*snip*

Only just got home after a day of many things. So the question is, what can Shroom throw together in 25 minutes...

Day 11: Continuing the sweet theme, here's an attempt at a chocolate. Didn't have a lot of time for this one, but still wanted to try something new: having modelled the basic shape and fiddled around for a bit trying to come up with a vaguely choco*snip*

Rounded ends were achieved simply by using Blender's 'bevel' function on the flat ends of the cylinder, which nicely rounds off edges. Looks nice, but simple to pull off. :)

Day 10: After my robot adventure, time for something new. Here's a nice and simple candy cane. :)

Day 8: This evening has definitely been a learning evening! But after lots of mucking around - and eventually rebuilding part of the head after discovering a whole mess of duplicated vertices in there - I finally managed to get a sensible UV unwrap of my r*snip*

Day 7: Decided to rig yesterday's robot model next, rather than texturing it, in case it turned out I needed to make any changes to the model. The rigging itself didn't need any changes, but I did first neaten up some of the face smoothing on the m*snip*

Day 6's train journeys bring this toy robot. It's currently untextured, with the plan being that today I did a bunch of modelling on it, tomorrow I will try to make a proper UV mapped texture for it, and after that I might take a shot at rigging it*snip*

Day 5 (juuuust): inspired by the Advent Calendar thread, here's a candle. :) Couldn't actually do a flame even though it is casting light, but the light isn't great either - spent some time fiddling with it, but didn't have a lot of time to*snip*

Day 4: now with carriages, and slightly less wonky textures. All aboard!
I'm certainly intending to keep at this every day, although I might be away from the internet for a few days around the weekend. I'll still have my laptop with me, so there m*snip*

Those snowflakes look awesome, Jay! :D
Just squeezing in before midnight, here's a toy train for day 3. Didn't quite have time to sort out the texturing properly, so it looks a bit naff, but maybe I can fix that another day. And maybe give it some*snip*

Here's model #2... the box is the easy bit, but today's challenge was making the wrapping!

It's fun this, making a little something each day. And I'm enjoying seeing / listening to everything you guys are *snip*

1st December 2018

So, just in time before it stops being the 1st, here's my day 1 piece of creativity. I've dabbled in 3D modelling with Blender before, but never in any great detail. I'm no artist, so this advent of creativity seems like a good excuse to play a*snip*

Xmas Something Something

15th November 2018

I like this idea, in particular because you can do as much or as little as you want each day - so long as you do something each day. I'm up for this. :)

Xmas Something Something

If a Christmas competition goes ahead it's definitely something I should try and make time to enter. :) The idea of a general themed competition sounds like a good one to me - a theme gives some level of inspiration and consistency to tie the whole thi*snip*

Bit late to the party, but still... [me]emerges from lurker shadows[/me]
Life is generally good. Just passed two years in my (games industry) job, which has flown by. Lots of coding in the day has meant much less coding in my free time... or maybe I'm*snip*

AGAWFrame

Ah, curses. I guess something's going to have to get smaller then, yeah. :/ Any chance you're able to drop the colour depth down, so that each pixel requires less space?

AGAWFrame

13th May 2018

Are you able to use a number of smaller buffers to represent the data of the one big one? e.g. four 512x512 buffers, or sixteen 256x256 ones. Still needs a bit of maths fiddling to get it right (though translation is arguably simpler than scaling) and you&*snip*

AGAWFrame

24th April 2018

It's possible that the memory issue you're describing is due to memory fragmentation, Jay. When you malloc X bytes of memory, the system needs to find you a single, solid, unbroken X bytes of memory that is free. But it might not be able to find su*snip*

Mathematic Grid Puzzle

18th March 2018

The solution that makes most sense will depend on how many times per frame you want to look these values up, and how much you care about efficiency. Pre-computing the results once, storing them in an array, and looking them up as needed at runtime is proba*snip*
