Skinning Bunker

Blobble

Bunker
Model by Brian `BoBo the Seal` Jones
Texture by Noel Cower

I will be updating this post as I progress on the model.

Bunker is a model that was originally a 24-hour skinning contest of sorts. The end result was that if your skin was good enough and finished in the 24-hour period, it was included with the Quake 3 model. This period has long-since passed (and my skin at the time was terrible- that's not being hard on myself, it was genuinely awful), but the model still remains a good example of a Quake 3 PPM that can fit a great number of different characters through skinning (unlike today, where one tends to differentiate based on facial texture, colors, and model components, to name a few items). Plus it's just plain fun to do this sort of work.

Current

Head is pretty much done. Probably doing the body tomorrow- requires more planning than the head would, and I only have about an hour left before work, so all I can do is sketch bits and pieces.

Progress #3
Goggles!

Progress #2
Did a bit of the helmet. For some reason I forgot to do the top block of the helmet, but that leaves me the option to do something other than just a regular helmet- goggles maybe.

Progress #1
Friend was working on a skin for the same model, so obviously I had to do it too. Initial bit of the face done.

hehe! Nice!

And, yes, you're quite right.. Good old skinning was a wonderful way to add variety. Shame the graphics got too fancy-pants for that, nowadays.
