Wednesday Workshop #091 : The MyGameIdeas.com Challenge
Time until Deadline

Week : 14 March 2007
The Reason : Magicman's suggestion (+ a really nice website).

The Challenge : Pick a game suggestion from MyGameIdeas.com, and make it!

Extra Info
Make the game as true to the suggestion as possible. (but, obviously, don't go mad)

Weekly Rules/How to Enter
You have until Tuesday Night/Wednesday Morning 00:00 BST to submit your levels. ^ See Deadline Link! ^

Wed.Workshop is at SoCoder.co.nr. If you can read this, you're probably already there!

Stick your entry underneath this post, leaving a link to your zip or the source of your game, or whatever. (I really should get round to that Upload thing, shouldn't I!)

If you can't figure it out, or have a really rubbish server, send it to Jayenkai@Gmail.com and I'll stick it straight onto the SoCoder (Official Wed.Workshop) site.

Entries will be collected during the week, and entered into next week's voting. (If there are any entries..)
All entries will be entered into voting which will take place if there's more than one entry..

Please try to keep all entries within small file sizes. 2Mb is the average maximum for files.
Additional Rules are available at the SoCoder (Official Wed.Workshop) site, under the list of previous workshops.

Last Week's Games

Aaah, come on, Jay! I didn't have any ideas again!!! I'm having an idea shortage. Besides, I have a rule: all my games must include mushrooms! That makes things more complex!

You know, I've just spent a good half hour reading through a LOT of those ideas.
Some of the ideas have potential, but most are...
"MMORPG! WITH BUGS!!!" or "Generic, BUT ONLINE!"

So, slight tweak of the rules. If you see an idea you like, but it's insanely complex, go with the flow of the idea, as opposed to the fully laid out plan! That is, if it says "Super Sandbox GTA with Dinosaurs!" then feel free to make a small game with dinosaurs!
Obviously, try to stick to the original spirit of the idea, just make the best that you can.

Well, for me, it's just a matter of sticking in some mushrooms and me into the game. Hmm...

Got it! Now I just need to program it...

|edit| Oh fiddle... I spent all day at school thinking how to put shrooms into this game... Now I've re-read the description, my plans have gone all pear-shaped. |edit|

If I don't finish off my week's entry on time, I'm definately going to finish it off for the Showcase.

I'm attempting to do Zombie Golf
It's a quirky little game, with a very odd name.. Exactly my type of game

Today I started off doing the graphics. At first I tried making really complex course graphics, but eventually came to the conclusion that Less=More, and redid it all with the "4 Colour Rule" That is, if you stick to 4 colours per tile, it's meant to give the illusion of more. It seems to do the trick.

Clicky for Biggy

(The ball was added in Painshop Pro, since I haven't gotten balls working yet!)

And the entire golf course is loaded from a lovely big 800x600 map image. Cracking stuff!

Next up, drawing some zombies

This may be an Idea for it jay: what about animating the water? and maybe adding a waving effect to the flag? This game sounds really cool.

and for the ball what about this:

That is something that i just wrote up really quick. I thought that it might work for the ball and its shadow.

how about adding a golf house or building too.

where you...a golfing zombie meet
and um zombinize with fello zombie golfers.

hey turn it into a House of the Dead game.
ahhhhhhhhh!!! true ha heeheee

House of the Undead Golfers

this time around...being a zombie
you try to save the surrounding golf area
and decreped and rotting buildings from
being torn down and rennovated into a shopping
mall.
armed with your golf club and your worn
and torn golf bag you attempt to hold off
the construction crews and bull dozers as
golfing ghouls n ghosts and fellow zombie golfers
eventually materilaize on the scene to help you out.

ghastly ghoulish golfing

Sorry Garand, all 3 are already done!
Ball shadow and ball are both pre-drawn images, just 'cos it saves having to deal with Blitz's slightly slower Oval command.
Wave effect is already animated on flag.

Water, quite neat..
Random blue pixels drawn to 64*64 area (with about 20 pixels drawn per frame)
64x64 tile then TileImage'd onto screen, moving slowly up+right, with the rest of the game drawn over the top.

OK, it's sorta hastily bunged together due to time constraints, so I can't guarentee that it'll work , so if there are any errors, please let me know before Wednesday!!! Anyway, here is my game based on 'Tank Mayhem':
shroom.monk.googlepages.com/ww91_entry.zip

I can 99.9% guarentee that you won't beat it - if ya do, then I'm finished... you'll see why if you get to the end... Have fun!!!

pieman,

I wish I could try out and play his game.
But my Windows downloader is acting quirky.
First I thought it was either the Winzip and/or
the Winrar.

I think in the future, I'm going to use and should use
a download accerelator or manager. I'll get one over
at

www.tucows.com

Then, and only then can I download and play shrooms' game.

I tried my best..
But unfortunately there's still way too much unfinished on Zombie Golf.
For starters, the Zombie AI's pretty useless.
There's no combat done.
The menu system's none-existant.
And I've only made 5 holes!

Way too much stuff to do within the next 1 hour 30 mins.

Bah, humbug.

So, I'll have to just finish it off for a Showcase, instead.

Looks like Shrooms won, then!

hey, its cool Pieman.

I should've had a download resumer or accelerator
to begin with. I don't know why the Windows downloader system acts up at times and doesn't download the whole
file.
So you know, I'll be milking 2 cows now.

new editey: downloading now...at the moment
and from Westlin Bunker Datacenter.
