Ditch Javascript

So today I installed the NoScript plugin, so I have javascript disabled except for a couple of websites. I even have it disabled for gmail and use the Basic HTML version....

Daaaaaaamn - the internet is *really* fast! And I am not really missing anything obvious... except all the ads, popovers, autoplay videos, slowdowns and my laptop even runs loads cooler!

You should try it out.. I ain't going back!

Most of SoCoder should still be functional.
Sliding sidebars won’t work, so be sure not to undock them! (Use the paintbrush page to re-dock them, if you do.)

Spoiler tags won’t work, nor will Flickr image loading, but I think most of the rest of the site should be just fine.

The Samsung Internet app on my phone updated recently and turned off Javascript by default - the shoutbox completely vanished. Argos and Maplin website stock check features didn't work.

Just be aware that if you frequent a site, and make glorious use of it's content, then you owe it to them to either turn adverts on for that site or stop using their bandwidth. Some sites live and die by ad revenue, and if everyone disabled the ads, they'd be screwed.
If a site's adverts/scripts annoy you too much, then either stop visiting that site or inform the admin of the issue.

Don't really agree with that. If site's can't manage to survive without bombarding visitors with overbearing ads then they'll get no visitors and shut down anyway.

Full-screen ads where you have to hit the Close button 20 times before it fucks off, and auto-playing embedded videos are among my personal "favourites".

I have not simply disabled Ads, I have completely disabled=nojavascript...) In fact, I can receive Ads. A simple image or text ad which is delivered via standard HTML.. that is fine. (And doesn't require javascript)

What I don't get are the Ads that follow me around the internet, track my personal habits and patterns, drain the resources of my machine and eat my bandwidth.

A site can always give me the "Javascript must be enabled to view this page" notification.. and I will happily hit the back button and forget I ever landed on that page.

Well, good to see you're able to navigate the web without issues. That's the main thing.
