Socoder -> Off Topic -> Steve's MOT

My car goes for an MOT in a couple of hours, should pass considering the work I've done on it.

I am sure it will be fine. :c)

My truck is in the shop getting the axle fixed, dang I miss it. Hate driving the minivan.

Just dropped it of and I'm going walkies down Asda. About an hour and then I find out if it passed.

Failed on number plate lights and broken rear coil spring. Both easy to do.

Indeed, neither are too bad. Here they will fail for plate lights, too, which is a bit asinine. Anybody needing to see your plates in the dark are going to be in a vehicle either behind you or in front of you with headlights clearly lighting up your plates.

Do you have to pay another inspection fee once those are fixed?

Not a bad price, paid just under 30 quid for the spring and bulbz, wasn't on shelf so I have to wait for a phonecall this afternoon when the supplier drops it off to the shop.

Done the number plate lights already, the amount of filth on the lens covers though. And I had to bend the connectors because the bulbz were loose, that's probably what caused them to blow in the first place.

Unless they've changed their policy since last year the retest is free if the car is taken back within 10 working days.

Checked under the car and discovered the spring that didn't fail is corroded to fuck and the failed one looks normal, gonna order another spring and do both so they can't suddenly say they meant the other side. No wonder they offered to do the work, the crafty bastards!

I think they forget that people like me know about cars and stuff.

People who know about anything and how to fix things are a dying breed. If everybody our age or older suddenly dropped dead, the youngsters left would be reduced to living in caves and eating bushes.

Quite a few of them already live in the woods while sitting in trees and whittling spoons.

I can safely say they were both fucked, at the MOT centre now waiting for the partial retest.

And now that's that bollocks out of the way for another year.

No inspections here. If it runs, it is basically legal. Florida and Tennessee were the same way.

It's all about making money in this country, an MOT means fuck all once the car leaves the centre. Anything can suddenly go wrong at any time.

And insurance is a piss take over here too.

Most states here have inspections. Sometimes you can find a guy who will pass anything in those states, but I am glad there isn't. I generally rip any pollution control crap I can off a car and plug it up if there are no inspections.
