#187 - The Green Challenge

80s-o-rama

The Challenge

Create a game entirely in Green!

The Time

Wed 4th February -> 11th February, 2009
You have until this timer hits zero to complete your entry. For the record, that's Tue/Wed, midnight GMT.

The Rules

You're free to reuse functions here and there, if it helps speed up your dev-time. Old art and audio, are pretty much expected, since we don't all have time to create fully working masterpieces within the space of a week!

Other than that, the main coding for each week's task should be pretty much created within the time allocated.

If you use other people's art/sound/functions, give credit where credit's due.
To enter, post your game below. If you can't find anywhere decent to host it, send it to Jayenkai@Gmail.com

Additional rules are available here.

I was bored. After a few hours of coding over Saturday afternoon and this evening, I have this:

You have a ship which you can thrust towards the mouse cursor (tiny crosshair). There are gates. Flying through gates = good.

Beyond this I have no idea

Hehe, cool!

In Geometry Wars 2, the gates work as a combo thing.
Fly through a gate, and have a short time to get to the next one.. Keep going, build up a big score... Miss the time limit, the combo resets.
Just a wee simple thing that could be added!

Just to let everyone know;
I'm planning on entering this one as well. My 'Green Pong' (current working title) currently has a player-paddle and a ball.
I'm not sure how to do the AI for the PC paddle, so I might be tempted to replace it with breakable bricks instead.
Just, you know... trying to come up with something different.

Drat In the end I didn't have enough time to add timing or irritating enemies to get in your way, but maybe I'll polish it and post a link over the weekend.

My entry as it currently stands:

Psycho Green Pong!

Would it be very rude to ask that this be included, since I was away last week? :]
Like Prospero, I will update this entry post-release. I wanted to add Bullets and a 'properly' working score-counter, but I didn't want to delay another day before entering.

Screeny:

Edit: I am particularily pleased with the background colour. It's green but it doesn't look 80's at all!
Also, there's a slight 'bug' with corner collisions, in which the ball will either fly off incredibly fast or jump seemingly randomly around. I'm looking into this...

As always, requires .NET 2.0 and XNA 2.0
