News from Engadget via Nikkei
3DS comes with a Parallax 3D screen made by Sharp, unsuitable for large screens, but oughta be ok for DS size.
Comes with "3D Control stick(s)", which could be some crazy assed stylus, or a thumbstick, or.. something else!
Has internal vibration! woot!
Thoughts?

The last time Nintendo promised controls designed specifically for 3D we got the N64 abomination controller.
If they went with a layout like the Virtual Boy I'd be happy. That was a nice controller config. (D-pad, two buttons and a shoulder button on each side)

You really do need analog stick(s?) for 3d gaming. I really hated mario64 with the d-pad.

Heh, I liked it better, aside from the few times precision walking was required, for which I used the stylus.

If they remade it zelda style, with the action on the bottom screen and that version of stylus control it would have been perfect.

I never got to try one out, properly.. A few quick goes, and that was that..
Sure, it looked like a monstrosity, but the thing felt extremely comfortable.
Sony had the better shape, though. Playstation was awesome. EA killed the sequels.
Looking forward to 3D gaming!

N64 controller was easily one of the greatest, ever. I never liked the playstations much. It's decent for playing, but not great. It's small iconic design is the only reason it is popular.

There wasn't a single control on the N64 controller positioned properly to fit my rage of motion. The center thumbstick was too low. The left D-pad was too far right. The yellow buttons were too close together. Total mess.
The PS1 controller did almost everything perfect. The only thing I would have changed is the D-pad. Separated sunken D-pads suck.

I assume that was their way to get around the whole 'Nintendo own the + shape d-pad'
Personally, the best d-pad I have ever used was on the master system, it was perfect for games requiring diagonals. Games which require you to tap a perfect 45° are almost impossible on any other d-pad.

Why don't people ever take 3D photos of these 3D screens? let us see if they work or not, stereo pairs - cross eyes or parallel, anaglyph, anything, just to show if the 3D is actual 3D or not!

Exactly what I was thinking! I kept looking for videos/photos of it, something with crosseye or 3D glasses, but to no avail. I want to see the power of these screens! |

...Also, you know the official name for this thing will be terrible. Remember how cool the Nintendo Revolution sounded, then we get the Wii

Ooh, that looks nice!
I bet that's not true, though. I can't imagine they'd have the screen outside.

Kinda off-topic, but it will be interesting to see how Metroid: Other M controls on the Wii with the d-pad in 3D. |
