Socoder -> Off Topic -> Deer Truck

Antilock brakes didn't help tonight, hit a deer on the way home. Sighs, truck was in EXCELLENT shape before tonight.

Kuron gets all the bad luck, so we don't have to!

Glad you're all safe.

Dabz and Kuron need to have a talk and share their luck a bit; both are at the opposite ends of the luck spectrum

We are fine other than my back hurting a bit. Truck needs some work, and soonish as we are planning to go to Mississippi for a few weeks in March and that is an 8+ hour drive, so it needs to be in good shape.

I will take some pics in the daylight Monday and do a better inspection, but in the dark looks like part of the left headlight is damaged (Not a major issue since I was going to replace all of the lights (lenses and bulbs) before the trip and already have the parts.), the vanity strip (with the logo) is damaged (the Chevy gold bowtie is also missing, so somewhere in the woods is a deer running around with a Chevy emblem embedded in its side), the bumper is bent/broken, and the left fender is bent. Possibly more damage, but won't be able to tell until daylight.

Nothing seems to be leaking or rubbing, brakes are still strong and alignment seems fine.

Could have been much worse, even for the deer (who I suspect escaped with just some broken ribs). Was unavoidable, three ran out in front of us from the left side of the road at the same time two ran out in front of us from the right side of the road. Wifey managed to avoid a head on hit and got a glancing blow off one of the deer. Was pretty much a pick which one you were gonna hit thing.

Truck is a 2004 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab, in excellent shape. It looked like the one below.

Where were you driving?

I've nearly hit a roo before, but luckily it hopped out of the way!

We had gone out for dinner and were coming home. We live out in the country in Tennessee. We were about 8 miles from home when Deermageddon happened.

I came close to a smash last night. Some twat was parked on the opposite side of a busy road, on yellow lines, and then mindlessly pulled straight out in front of me. Good thing I'm a well experienced driver, that could have been a messy insurance situation.

Only a $50 deductible, not too bad.

Blimey!, over here the excess payment rapes the fuck out of us. If I have a prang they would deduct something like a couple of hundred quid or so. Of course, assuming the prang is the other driver's fault, I would be able to claim that excess back from the other driver's insurance company; in the event that I was to hit a largeish animal though, that excess goes straight back into their own pockets. The insurance industry is one of the biggest ripoffs, fucking fat-cat b******s!

I guess it could vary by state (do not know), but usually hitting an animal is considered a no fault accident.

Amount of the deductible does vary policy to policy with the amount of coverage, rider polices, etc.

The pickup is a 2004, but do still keep decent insurance on it since we keep it in top shape. Living rural also keep a windshield rider on all three vehicles. Pennies per month and only a $50 deductible if a rock gets thrown and dings the windshield. Much better than paying $500 or more to replace a windshield.

Windscreen cover is the only thing that's any use with car insurance. On mine the windscreen excess is quite high though, £75, with other companies I've used it was around £50 but they kept bumping up the premium.
