Right, got Win10. Trying to create the stand alone dvd to do a clean install, waited all day for the download, which I told it to plonk in 'This PC>Desltop' and has it hell. Not only is it not there, it's not anywhere! I told it to name the file windows.iso, because, well, that's the default name, searched the whole computer for it and nothing. It downloaded the file then instantly lost the thing. Argh!

My wave has rolled in on my laptop... Havent done the ISO install... Just upgrading straight off the bat, seems to be going well!

Not going to let it anywhere near my desktop PC at the moment, see what the score is... But if I like it, then I'll upgrade, I personally couldnt give a toss about keyloggers or anything... The world knows what I do, what I buy, where I go etc etc If Microsoft want to read my gibberish, then they can go for it... I dont even know what I'm typing half the time! hehehe

Just opened the laptop from it's usual hibernation mode, to find a few "quirks" as though the system had rebooted.

Noticeably, after a reboot, my StickyNotes are misaligned, instead of being tight against the right hand side of the screen.
This doesn't happen after a hibernation "shut the laptop" sleep, and ONLY happens after a complete reboot.

And yet.. There they were, misaligned.
hmmm..
Then I got a "Windows 10 has performed an update" popup message.

Seems that Win10 is doing background updates beyond what I've seen before. Perhaps even whilst asleep, although that seems highly unlikely.
I imagine that if it's downloaded an update, it maybe tries to install it when you close the laptop, instead of actually shutting down, or something. *shrugs*

*sigh*. .. Dad joke!!

Still, on this occasion, the sticky notes only got blown about when the Windows was shut, so.. Um..

Aaand I'll stick firmly with Windows 7 for as long as I possibly can, sticking far behind the cutting edge of things, occasionally peeping out and saying "But, this still works, just fine, without all the added fancy bits."

I'd stick with XP if it still had the driver support and could address more RAM.

What "added fancy bits"?!
If anything, they've stripped out the fancy bits!!!

No added fancy bits? I'm curious what, if any reason there is to upgrade ot be honest. I hear Microsoft are supporting Windows 7 until 2020.

Why the hell isn't there the option to pin the tiles to the desktop?! They aren't "there at a glance" if they're hidden in a menu. Sure the full screen start menu without a desktop was a stupid idea, but completely removing the idea instead of using the good bits is another step in the wrong direction, especially after getting rid of desktop widgets! God dammit microsoft.

Because people are morons and keep finding security holes that end up making Microsoft pulling features like there's no tomorrow.

In a perfect world, I'd still be using my lovely LCars styled Active Desktop!

Lying here doing doodles with my iPad, and I suddenly hear a fan kick off.
"Wonder why my NAS has suddenly sprouted into life." I wonder.
I lean over, and realise it's not the NAS.
It's my Laptop.
My CLOSED laptop.
The fan has suddenly kicked into high gear.
Whilst it's closed, and supposedly sleeping.

Hmmmm........

I booted it up, checked it, and nothing unusual appeared to be going on.
I expect this is the same "stealth updates" thing that happened the other day, but I've no way to know for sure.
All I do know is, closing your laptop no longer means the laptop isn't doing stuff....

I don't want to remove it par se, as I might want to upgrade at some point in the next year. M$ might have sorted out a lot of the shit by then and the millions of beta testers will have stopped moaning or finding bugs

It doesn't really bother me being there TBH, even if it is taking up system resources, but thanks anyway. If it's still there this time next year, I'll get rid!
