My summation of Cobra

here is my summation of Cobra. Actually, its from a response and also a paraphrase from an email sent by my brother Mark to me.

He sent me an email asking me this: is that device which mom,me,Tracy gave you set up? I forget the name.

I replied with this:

Mark, that thing is the Hydra which you and the whole family got me for Christmas. And is not really set up yet.

But I have it on the computer table and along with a surge protector and also my Sony 13 inch color tv is on there too.
but hey, I opened the box and checked and verified all the parts. To see if they are all there. They are. And alao to see if everything is secured and hasn't loosened during the handling and transport of the product. I especially checked the XTal clock chip and the propeller chip too.

I haven't started the Hydra cause I ahve been doing a 2 week hardcore testing of the Cobra demo. Yes, Cobra is finally out.

Here is a short summation of Cobra demo on my part:

it really looked cool and was excited that ift finally came out. I liked a lot of the examples.
But, after awhile what a mess! With all the bugs, glitches and Window operating systems issues with it.
I don't mind the watermark screen in the demo and can even tolerate the nag screen which stops your program and informs you that it was compiled with Cobra. But I just don't like the snakebite debugger permanently enabled. This has got to go.
I do like the Pascal like style syntax and the way the help file is laid out.
For now, this is not a demo but a product that is still in the alpha or beta stage and where volunteers are still beta testing it so to speak. When the bugs and glitches are worked out, it will make a very good product and will definitely sell well.
Yet, what I have done in Cobra, I can do better and more in both Blitz3d and DBPRO.

I think that's quite a good summation, and I'd have to agree. Cobra still seems too new to really be used well and as your main language of choice.

Hmmm... I wanted to try Cobra, but I can't cos of all the glitchs it keeps causing. Once all the bugs are worked out of it, it might be good, but yeah, I agree with your summation. Have fun with the Hydra!

thanks shroom

I finally put the tv on the table. But you know, there is something that always comes up... that stops me in hooking up the Hydra.

Yes, I will have fun and learning too. And hey, just you and others here wait when the XGS 2 comes out. The cube shaped home computer.

cough!
squeak!!

I know...I know. Its going to be the new thing under the sun. you're right.

I'm not telling a whole lot about it...cause I don't want to be either proved wrong, nor cry wolf sorta speak in the sense of getting and disappoint people of what really comes about with it.

Just like with the Hydra. I should've known with both Andre LaMothe and Parallax designing and distributing this Hydra thing. Andre said it would be more for programming that anybody, any kid could hook it up and program it and also it comes with a litle...yes a little on the hardware.

Well! I guess his little hardware is over 700 pages chockful of it and knowlege and information. Its similar and almost the same as the XGS. Is initially more hardware oriented than software.

So, I'm keeping mum on most of the information on the up n coming XGS 2 and when it comes out. Andre again says it will be more or strictly software and programming and with a tiny bit of hardware and also with assembly language.

So, Instinct and others I wait before it comes out...to say more about it. I will check it out first when it does finally come out.

agree with ya too.

Besides, Instinct

and others here too...

I'm still going to learn and code with the Hydra. It may take me a long time but the challenge is in learning and using the hardware.

And, yes learning and coding in the Spin language.

The Hydra. My Titan Quest! true.

I didn't mean anything by it, but your description of the cube-shaped computer reminded me of the NeXT computers that steve jobs tried to market. They were these large unattractive black cubes. Here's a picture:

thank you for clearing this up for me. Me bad!

Dang!!, I should've known Instinct. I have this book that talks about old home computers of the late seventies and all the way up to the nineties.
Besides, the name looked and sounded familar. slaps myself!!

I sent you an email or PM from devcrunch. With an apology included.
Again, I'm sorry.

Yet, thank you for giving me... thru this misunderstanding on my part... some fire and more motivation of getting into the Hydra.

However, I don't want to tell you nor others more about this upcoming XG2 yet. It may not turn out what Andre says it will be...like with both the Hydra and the XGS as an example.
I'll see when this hypercubed computer is released to see if what Andre says is true or exagerrated about it. But for now mum is the word. I'll be quiet on the XGS 2 for now.
ahhhh!!! except the cube is going to be smaller and believe me more attractive in design and color.
