New Fence..

..hopefully!

Our back yard fence is a fucking mess!

When we "did a borrow" off my Uncle (to manage to afford to get the bloody roof redone) he suggested that, in the first month, rather than pay him back we should spend the money on a new fence.

FACT : If Uncle expects THAT much each month, he's about to be disappointed!!!

The new fence panels arrived this morning.

And there they'll sit until our next-door neighbour shows up like he promised..
..

FACT : Relying on the promises of others is never a good idea!!

Uncle's due to arrive in about an hour's time, in order to "help" the neighbour do the fence. Hopefully both of them show up, because Uncle hasn't rang, and Neighbour hasn't been seen since Thursday!
Eeek!

Neighbour and Uncle both showed up, stripped away the old fence, then went "we can't do this!!!"

.. FFS.. "Helpful" people!!!!

We were absolutely prepared to get the fencing company to install the fence, but.... oh no ... "helpful" neighbour says "we can do that!!!" Then gives up AFTER stripping away the old fence.
We now only have a hadtily re-cobbled-together framework of old garbage, splodged into a makeshift pile..

Had to ring up the company, and they'll be here Monday/Tuesday to do it.

FFS..

My neighbour, with a little help from me holding fence posts upright, managed to fit the same kind of thing. He made a concrete footing and built a short wall on top of that, with gaps in the breeze blocks to accomodate the concrete posts.

Uncle and neighbour probably could do it if they put their mind to it.

They will also need to dig a one foot trough before pouring the concrete footing, this will provide weight to stop the whole thing toppling over in the wind.

My neighbour also measured the panels before making the spaces for the posts, the panels simply slide in from the top into the groves on the posts once the concrete has fully set. Two able bodied people with two step ladders can easily do that part.

Forgot to mention: Concrete and balast for the footing, breeze blocks for the short wall (about 3 blocks high should be enough), and postscrete for setting the posts into the gaps.

|edit| If they dig a deeper trough then it can be done without the breeze blocks |edit|

The problem isn't the "putting it up" bit.. It's the "we used to have big conifers out there, and there's huge tree stumps in the way.."

Here's how you deal with a 50 foot tree.

There was originally gigantic bushes along the full length, it took days to get those out. It took the neighbour the best part of two years to complete, he's not a very well man so can't do too much in one go. I'm not exactly in good health either, so I could only help with bits here and there.
