Microsoft AI 3D Object Generator

Head to Copilot.microsoft.com, click on the new Labs button on the left, then on the CoPilot 3D button.

Upload an image..

And then .. In literally about 10 seconds...

That's kinda crazy.

Obviously it's not the best looking 3D model, and there's no articulation and such, but if you were any good with modelling tools you could neaten that up, and maybe even add limbs and animations and such.
It really is quite impressive how fast that worked.

Crikey..

Yeah I saw this and went wow!

So once they perfected it they can work on animations, so I'll finally be able to create a 3D game... Or I'll ask an AI to create it with the AI generated assets (music, art, voice etc).. we are certainly in the automation world now...

Still lazy and soulless to me.
The creation matters as much as the result.

Art isn't in the result, it's in the granularity of the choices made during the process of the creation of a meaningful result. This is why AI products are often referred to as "AI slop". Essentially, it's like telling the viewer that one doesn't even value their time enough to do art while expecting them to be impressed.

The algorithms are interesting especially stable diffusion, but the results can insult the viewer's expectations.

I think that's the main problem with AI images. Even if the results are good or exactly the same, it tells the viewer that they're not even worth the humanity it takes to make bad art.

To a degree...

My daily blog's had a Greenie-pic since I managed to get the AI to draw Greenie to a decent standard.
My sister once asked me "Can't you just do that yourself", and .. Sure I could. Absolutely. Give me a couple of hours a day and I could likely generate a nice pic of Greenie to vaguely resemble the point of the blog.
Sure, absolutely.

Would I then have time to write that blog, as well as writing the weekly games?
Not a sodding chance in hell.

For me, for the solo-dev who does everything they do, having AI generated pics to go alongside a blog is essentially like I'm dishing out the chores to other people.
Could I *pay* other people to draw a pic every morning? That's a possibility, sure.
Except I'll be sitting here writing an impromptu blog at an unreasonable hour and forcing people to "hurry up with that pic, I'm posting the blog in 5 minutes.."

Now, if you're a big business, and you have staff to do that. Go right ahead and get the staff to do it.
If you're firing thousands of people and switching up to A.I. Instead, then you can quite frankly fuck right off.
