Hello World
This week we got a new bathroom fitted, an old leak appeared, part of the kitchen ceiling collapsed, and we're now busy preparing to fit a brand new ceiling.
Which is perfect timing, really, because otherwise I'd have to listen to people bitch and whine about how a question of "Which letter do you use as a basic all-around temporary number" rapidly becomes "OMG!! NOT ONE!!! NOOOOOOOOOOoooooooo!!" and all the sillyness pops out yet again, simply because I didn't have space to write a giant 17 page disclaimer on the frontpage beside the poll suggesting that people might not particularly use that exact syntax, but that hopefully they would understand why only the letter was changed between each of the polls options.
This is going to be just like those "Write" things, isn't it.

Without the thrill of "OMG ADS!", the ads are pretty much as dud as expected. No click, no peeks, no munys, and so they've now been removed. Like I said, if there's no point, then there's no point.

"Chicken Fried" by Zac Brown Band. Possibly the worst song ever written; A definitive collection of bad country music cliches - the perfect example of the utter shit that is country music. God, I hope you folks in the UK don't get this on the radio.
There is one I heard a couple of times on the radio, but I can't remember its name. There is some sort of plinkity plinking going on that doesn't make any sort of melody, some guy then pop's up "singing" all out of tune, it's awful, yet the dj insists its one of the best songs for a long time.
Moral of the week..
Modern music sucks!

File Flicking
Without making things complicated, how do you give a level editor the ability to flick through files, and level sets? In the end, I quite like how simple I've managed to make things, but you'll have to wait until JNKPlat2010's release to see it in action.

Faster Loading
Seems that Mog's scaling back his multi-gigabyte wonder demo by hacking the B3d files themselves. There are odd crashes, but he seems to be getting a handle on things. He's since found that using a particular file format for loading textures will speed things up by a boatload. Head inside to find out which.

Apple Vs Language (JL235)
Apple have decided that their war against Adobe should encompass much more than just plain Flash. They've now rewritten their T&Cs to pretty much destroy any and all programming languages other than those that run on their own system, in the hope that CS5 will be squished like a bug.

Photo Realism (JL235)
An "amazing" technology allows for fantastic looking re-renders of people's faces, in a slow methodical way. And, to be honest, it's not really all that good.

 Ants : The Test Engine! (therevillsgames)
A simple test engine of a possible future Worms clone. Uses standard deformations to leave a consistent bullet hole in the landscape.
With a little working, this could easily become a decent worm-like game. I usually get stuck doing the Landscape Generation stuff, but I'm sure if you used nice chunky sprites like these to build up the landscape, it'll be a whole lot easier.

Moshboy's "Missed" Games
Slumlord/Moshboy's collection keeps on growing endlessly. He's only found 2 new games, this week, but they're both great.

A nice little shooty puzzle sort of game, where your ship draws lines, and you must use those lines to capture the bad guys.
Each time you change direction, a line appears in the direction you're aiming, and it's those that you must trap the baddies inside of. Looks nice and vectory!

Pixel Prospector's Games
Kaizen continues to dig like some sort of freeware dog with a bone!

 Call of Duty 6, 2D
Demakes are always fun, and this game has somehow managed to keep all the fast action of the 3D version, whilst stripping everything away into a bizarre cartoonish world.
It's a great style, and it makes the entire game look like it's something out of South Park, or something. Great style!

 10 Second War
A great looking shooter where you control an entire army, one at a time. You have 10 seconds per player, and must destroy all the enemy in the arena.
If you haven't killed them all yet, you restart the level as a second baddy, and set off to simultaneously kill the same enemy. The game quickly becomes a 10 second shooting fest, as a handful of your guys are roaming around killing all the enemy.

 Geek Mind
One of those "D'oh, why didn't I think of that!" quiz games. The game plucks screenshots from hundreds of games, and you must try to guess the name of the game.
On a related note, there's an iPhing app called PopTweets that does a similar thing, where you have to guess who tweeted what tweets. Kinda addictive!

 Anything Beats Everything
Another simple premise. Find the one object in the screen that is different to everything else.
The game's difficulty level is mostly based on the fact that everything looks so darned similar in the first place!

A nice simple Platform Shooter, exactly what it says in the title. Nearly!
Shoot the different enemy with different alike coloured weaponary to defeat them. It's the platform shooter version of Ikaruga!

A game with shades of the 8-bit classic Deflektor, only with you firing a ball, instead of an overloading lazer!
