Ok, this will probably go right over some peoples heads (no offence) but anyway, here goes...

PDAs are not very programmable, or at least, you can't create programs on them. I used to want a PDA, and then use it to program on the move, for the 2 hours me and shroom_monk spend on a bus each day.

However, if you go back to years like 1994 PDAs were being manafactured, yet these you could program on.

Lucklily for me I have one of these, and shroom_monk and i have lots of fun, staring a pages and pages of command reference...

The PDA is an Acorn PocketBook II with 256kb of Ram and a 480x160 monochrome screen, yet you can program it!!!!

Now I have nattered ill ask the questions this has been leading up to:

1)Does anyone have an Acorn computer or an Acorn PocketBook II

2)Does anyone know OPL, which is the language used on it

(Even better dores anyone have a PocketBook II and know OPL)

MadProff looked it up. We had a look at a command reference he found, and that told us some of it.

I was going to suggest getting an old PSION, but it looks like you've got one - The Pocketbook is a rebadged Series 3!

With the large screen, full keyboard, built-in OPL interpreter & IDE (a structured basic-like language) - not to mension all-round excellent desktop comparable software...

As you might guess, I have and regularly use my series 5mx, but I've got also got three 2Mb 3a's in a drawer somewhere if anyone wants one

OPL16 isn't developed any more, but OPL32 is now open-source and runs on many symbian 'smart phones'.

OPL Documentation Wiki

Here's something I prepared earlier (may need some porting to ye olde series 3): Sudoku

Yep

Only the input procedure, which uses a 32 bit trap, and the graphics, which uses rgb colour instead of planes, needs any modification. I'd do it if only I could find a link cable.

If your offering to give away 3as...

ID LOVE ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And just out of interest, would the cable be the same for the 3a's and the PocketBook II as ive got a spare one lying around...

3 x 'Prudential' 2MiB PSION 3a
3 x 'Prudential' Leather case
2 x 3-link cable
3 x 1MiB Flash SSD
1 x boxed Monopoly SSD
1 x boxed Scrabble SSD
1 x boxed Games Deluxe SSD

All three were made for the Pru'. One is well used, and has a broken hinge, but the other two are nearly new.

I've got two 'sets' of machine, case, 3-link, Flash SSD to give away. Yup, I'd be happy to give them away if I though someone might use them.

Proff: I don't know about sending all of them; You've already got one! How do I know you wont just flog them on eBay?

Hayling Island is in Hampshire, near Portsmouth. (not Portsmouth, New Hampshire, mind!)

I had hoped you might be local, because I hadn't really considered how you might send me money

Agent Smith: I went, and stayed, with Psions because the software and OS - to my mind - pwned the competition and in many cases still beats the clunky, buggy Windows Mobile, or limited Palm OS.

I want them to give to friends and family. And i don't want to flogg them on ebay. Promise. I was anticipating a cheque, just let me know how much you want and where to send it to and ill do it.
