QOTD - January 2025

30th January 2025

For my vic 20 games, sometimes quite a bit out of necessity to achieve speed or reduction in size or both. Anything from game logic to data and structures. It can be rewarding and frustrating but ultimately I enjoy creating things in an environment that ha*snip*

W.H.Shutdown

WHSmiths used to be a great shop for me. Along with John Menzies and Boots, and later HMV and Virgin Megastore, it sold everything I was into.
It first began to decline when it pulled out of DVD sales, and then became very expensive. My kids were still qu*snip*

Back to Windows

24th January 2025

I've really wanted to love Linux, but I've always struggled with it and I have no patience to tinker anymore. I've got a lovely Intel mac book from 2010 which let me run osx and Windows at the same time thanks to great VM support. Used that for*snip*

I use git and github. Nice and easy in VSCode and I use github desktop to manage my Vic 20 code without having to mess with a million command line commands.

Switch 2

17th January 2025

Now that's a good idea. I also found it was comfortable holding at an angle on the edge, if you know what I mean. And finger on the shoulder button. The new joycons are larger which might change things.
I hope they haven't done something stupid wh*snip*

Switch 2

17th January 2025

Guess we'll find out. Having played a lot of my old Wii games over Christmas, I wouldn't mind a wiimote experience from the switch but that would be on TV thing. Hard to imagine how you could use that in handheld mode, certainly not pointing at the*snip*

Switch 2

17th January 2025

A mouse feature, while not excitingly new, would be useful for fps and strategy. I much prefer using the mouse on no man's sky on the pc, than I do with the joysticks on the switch. I mean I manage but would have been cool to have a mouse option.

UK A.I. Plans

Depends.
I have been impressed by github copilot, yesterday I added a property to my state and went down to a section of my code and immediately a suggestion of four lines of code came up that was exactly what I was about to type. This is not uncommon an*snip*

No Man's Sky - Switch

24th July 2024

World's Part 1 has finally made it through the approval process and is available on the Switch. Better late than never. Clouds and water does look good. I see some brief slow down on a lush planet when I first get out of my ship, it only lasts a second*snip*

ST Discovery - Season Four

I've got to watch it this weekend. I can zone out after the first hour then! I've mostly just been watching these. I don't like the future setting at all, especially the ships. I do like the spore drive but it feels a bit too Superman and there*snip*

Happy Birthday, BASIC

Yay. Jse is a wonderful achievement. Something to be rightly proud of.
I also discovered visual small basic 3 yesterday. Been playing around with it and pretty impressed. Not good for games but seems well suited for tooling and editors.

Stuck in a Rut

Creating for a retro platform is a lot of fun, especially if it is one you fondly remember, from my perspective at least. It is possible to give something out for free and also to sell of a cartridge or other media.

Emu's Massive Hunt [Vic 20 +35K]

I'm making a platformer for the fully expanded Vic 20. I've had fun with making a game in the unexpanded (4k) Vic and now I want to do something without the restrictions of limited RAM. Well it's still limited to a bit under 40K but that is hug*snip*
