Laptop recommendations?

19th February 2014

Could anyone here recommend a good laptop to meet the following criteria:
-Costs under $500
-To be used primarily for coding 2D games and working with 2D graphics
Thanks in advance!

Still using Blitz

Thanks for all the responses.
A problem I've had with Blitz Basic is that I could never get a music file to play. Some of you might remember this from a while back. The code was right but it wouldn't work on any of my machines. I own the old Idigicon vers*snip*

What do you guys think of PureBasic? There's a Krylar book about it.

Thanks, Jayenkai!
One of the reasons I was able to figure things out in Blitz Basic was that there were books like the one by John Logsdon. I might as well give Max and Monkey a look, and see if I can manage with whatever documentation is available.

Hi, everyone. It's been a while!
Years ago, I was teaching myself to program for games using Blitz Basic (i.e. BlitzPlus). I learned a lot, but my efforts were derailed by other responsibilities (read: kids!) that ate up all my free time and energy and br*snip*

Sorry, I should have been more specific with my question. I meant, assuming I know the number of frames and don't have to worry about that particular problem, are there any other advantages to using DrawImageRect to display the cells from an imag*snip*

A couple of questions

JL235, thanks for the reply. I'm not too worried about speed for this because it's just a map editor I'm using to create levels (not planning to distribute it). Within the game itself, I'll hard-code the numbers so I won't have to load the images twice.

A couple of questions

Thanks for the help!
I think I'll just stick with my original approach, seeing as how the editor is just a means to an end. And that other stuff is a bit over my head, honestly. :)

Hi all,
I'm working on a map editor for a tile-based game, using Blitz 2d. Some questions:
1) Is there a way for my program to "know" how many tiles are in a given image strip at the time of loading, without that information being hard coded?
