Having the damndest thing, right now. 90 % of the web is inaccessible to me. Have reset the router, but still getting blank broken sites everywhere.

I must admit, this is somewhat unsettling. Their prices rise and an outage occurs. That's very... Um... Didn't we just do this with Linode the other week?!

This is probably the first main outage I've had, with Nynex/Cable&Wireless/NTL/Virgin in the decades I've been with them, and it's really rather odd issue, too. I mean, I'm typing this on my laptop through my Virgin connection, and .. some of the internet is accessible.. But not all.
It's very very .. um.. what's the word..
Like they're installing a great big Chinese-style blocker thing...
Hmmm..

Virgin Media are getting a bit like Brighton & Hove City Council's local taxes, where less costs more.

Contractors have just installed City Fibre in my area and I've heard that Virgin Media are already trying to buy them out, the monopolous bastards!

What DNS server are you using Jay? If it’s your ISPs you could try CloudFlares or Googles:

IPv4: 8.8.8.8 and/or 8.8.4.4 .

And see that helps.

No it wasn't the DNS. That was the second thing I tried, after rebooting the router.
It did feel a bit DNSy, but even Ping was failing. 1 or 2 successful pings followed by ten or so failed.
Repeatedly, on any site I tried.

I guess the reason SoCoder was working as well as it was, is because it's incredibly minimal and there was very little back and forth, so those multiple mini requests weren't failing along the way, as often as the pings were.

The issues seemed to disappear just after 9, so I'm guessing someone got to work and plugged a wire back in or something.
*shrugs*

Seems ok again. I think/hope.
Gawd, it's been a frustrating day trying to watch a torrented Quantum Leap and upload an ALChoon!!!

Aye, we could barely function as an online business this afternoon.

I think this is maybe my 5th or 6th major outage since the early 2000s. I'm kinda ok with it. It's annoying as hell, but it's still rare enough that I wouldn't suddenly want to change my broadband supplier, especially having seen so many people getting frustrated by BT/Sky/TalkTalk/etc, in my area.

My connection is stable, and in actuality, my connection was apparently still 100% stable, today. It's something else that's happened today.

I'm not really sure what, or how, but it was definitely not "My connection to the VirginMedia hub" that was the problem here.

"Oops, sorry, it's working now." says Vodaphone, after their own mysterious outage.

I'm sure nothing sinister is going on, and they're not silently building up the UK's version of the great firewall.
Everything is fine.
