Microsoft backtrack on XP death

Instead of MicroSoft killing XP to force people over to Vista, Dell announced that it would be offering XP again on home PCs.

Sounds like good news.

Read about it in this rather satirical article "Microsoft admits Vista failure".

I'm hoping Windows XP license prices drop, otherwise I'm not using Windows on any computer other than my laptop. £100 for Home edition is a little steep now I'm used to Linux!

MS would not drop or kill XP. Like the PS2 and PS3, it wouldn't supruse me if XP is outselling Vista, easily.

MS only officially ended 95 support a few years ago.

yay!!

Hasta La Vista!

yet, the PS 2 looks a mighty attractive.
What with Oblivion, Resident Evil, and a few other
games.
But hey, if Titan Quest or especially
the up n coming HellGate London or even Fallout 3
comes out for the PS 2....then,
my Stop will be Games. GameStop!!

I will pick up a PS 2 over at GameStop and
also a memory card too.

Why shell out the clams and salami
for a new computer just to play a few games?!??
When I already have my Compaq Presario and also
my HP Pavilion computer. True!

cheers

Exactly, which is why they were setting a date for something like next year stopping people selling ready-built PCs with XP, and instead forcing Vista. The fact that Dell have gone back on this is good news, IMHO.

Microsoft never seem to learn, they already got taken to court for trying to monopolise the computer market once before. There is no way that I will convert to a pollished-up clone of Windows ME. When XP is no longer supported and if Microsoft are still selling that load of old crap, I'm thinking of going over to another system and use emulators to run my current software.

You mean the computer, right?

Come to think of it.....I have had
my Compaq Presario for almost 8 years.
With Windows 98, AMD K6 550 mhz cpu,
64 mb of system memory, Trident integrated
video memory, 20 gig hard drive.
Still going strong after all these years.

Yet, I'm glad Dell went back to XP. I hope
Hp, Emachines, and others do the same.
They probably will.

well hey MadProff,

what about Windows CE?

And I'll buy a Mac when the price drops
and is affordable for all...and Apple and especially
Steve Jobs takes a less elitist approach with their
products.

I'll go for the Cube.
