Even scarier is that Big Brother has or will use this.

I have one idea that might help prevent it...

Wallpaper your house with tin foil.

|edit| Or just use Virtual Keyboard for entering personal data |edit|

That's really cool! Sneaky and evil, but really neat.

Yeah its getting to the point where i'm going to be modding my computer case and keys to block all electromagnetic waves from going in or out...

Or get a plasma lamp, instinct. Those things are pretty cool.

Don't put it too close the the computer, mind.

My ears are quite sensitive.. Alarmingly so.. Always have been..

I've never really been worried that my wireless mouse goes "peeeeep" as I drag it around the desktop.

But I am now!! Foook!!!

Yeah that's pretty bad. But note in the article that they did not have any LCD or desktop computers running at the time, in case of signal interferences.

Next they'll have to come out with encrypted keyboards, just to protect peoples' data.

They wont have to come out with encrypted keyboards....like you just said they had no LCD or desktop computers running, in case of interference. So we have nothing to worry about. ALL electronics emit an electromagnetic field of some kind. So it would be 99.999999999% impossible to do that in a normal situation. I have a 42' wide screen tv, 4 computers and 3 monitor, a big stereo, surround sound speakers, xbox360, WII, PS2, wireless router, cell phones, external devices for my pc....and power supplies for alot of that stuff, satellite radio, double door refridgerator, wash and dryer, and a big deep freezer between my living room and kitchen. So there is so much MORE electro magnetic fields in just those 2 rooms that they would not be able to get any thing from my keyboards.

And just remember even just a basic extension cord emits an EMF as well. Alot of people are paranoid about EMF radiation. I have been living in this EMF field for at least 5 years now. LOL. Lots of people say the power lines cause radiation posioning. Hey...thats another thing you can add to the list up there. Just the wiring in my house as well. That and I live in a trailer which is shielded anyways with the aluminum siding.

Yup, EMF everywhere. There are thirty 802.11b/g networks within range of my house. Thirty. And that's in a suburban street. Forget health concerns, network performance is shocking!

I don't know Orion, sure there may be alot of EMF's around, but they could develop tools to detect slight shifts in EMF fields, something all the power units around you wouldn't do, but the keyboard would. But then... you might be right. They could always create a device to release random-strength EMF signals repeatedly, to throw off any readers.

That still wouldnt work mindstorm as the EMF radiation from a keyboard isnt that high. The EMF radiation from a monitor or LCD screen would be enough alone (almost) to drown out the keyboards EMF radiation. Why do you think they tried to avoid using a desktop or LCD screen?

But your idea of a device that generates random EMF signals repeatedly is a good idea and wouldnt be hard to create.
