Dwarf Fortress

https://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/help/main.html
Although still in alpha, this game is awesome. Dwarf Fortress is a ASCII single-player fantasy game. You can control a dwarven outpost or an adventurer in a randomly generated, persistent world. The world is randomly generated with distinct civilizations, dozens of towns, hundreds of caves and regions with various wildlife. The world persists as long as you like, over many games, recording history and tracking changes. It takes 15 minutes to create a world. 15 minutes for a ASCII game. Think about that.

Cool - I saw the screenshots, and realised I have something almost identical which runs in my Linux Terminal.

I'd tell you the name if I could boot the machine, but it's not feeling too well.

I'll have to download this Windows version. Cheers, B3Dman

Leave it to indie developers to put originality and depth into the strangest games. It's fantastic. I'm going to have so much fun with this game. Thanks for sharing.

Nice link!

I've been a fan of Dwarf Fortress for quite a while now but I suck at playing it None of my fortresses ever seem to make it past the second or third year before getting wiped out by psychopathic elephants...

If you're impressed by what detail the game already has, just try looking at the Development Log section for some of the planned features. Man, all that stuff in an ASCII game is just mind-blowing.
