This is probably more a chemistry question than a physics one, and I have absolutely no idea what possible purpose you require this element for, but Wikipedia says you need titanium ore... good luck with that. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hafnium#Production

Because... in large enough quantities, it could lead to this!

Turns out, antimatter isn't easy to produce in large quantities because noone bothered to find a way to do it, so I had to make my own design.

Well, whether you like to believe it or not, I have come up with a relatively simple concept that should work.
But I need Titanium Ore in order to be able to produce Hafnium-178m2!

I've done some research on Hafnium (though I'm still at a loss as to how to produce it). If you blast it with x-rays, its properties are such that it will release gamma-rays in large quantities.

If these gamma-rays are driven through a particle-beam, the result is matter and antimatter!

Simple, huh?

Obviously you also need a magnetized chamber in order to store the antimatter, because antimatter is such that it will explode in contact with any matter.
The two simply cannot come in contact without eradicating one another!

Not really sure you'd be my #1 choice for people to use it, though!!!
Now, Steve, on the other hand.. He does all those planes and things.
A sooped up Antimatter based remote control plane would be AWESOME!!

I don't think you can begin to understand the mathematics behind all of this. Unfortunately it's not something you can just throw together in your basement; the precision manufacturing required for such a feat is incredible-- but that's just the manufacturing; having enough knowledge in order to conceive of what a practical design would be, and then all the time spent simulating and modelling the possible outcomes in order to test said system. This project would be enormous, to say the least. You would need a higher degree just to understand the full depth of such a project.

I hope you realize that when they built the large hadron collider it wasn't like a few scientists got together, drew up some sketches on a napkin and said "okay that should work let's get a few billion dollars and build this thing"; it took years of planning, modelling, materials research, simulation, redesigning, resimulating, GOTO 10, until they were finally able to make what they have. And they can't even contain antimatter for a whole second!

Storing anti-matter is a far greater issue. There are some theories on how to do it, but it's never been done. I would worry about that first before you try to create large batches of it.

I've learned to realize that most ideas have been thought of (even though they seem original). Scientists thought of it, disproved it, and moved on.

Also, good luck getting Hafnium-178m2. That's used in nuclear materials and as such is very tightly controlled.

All the research I've done on antimatter suggests that it is magnetic. Like metal. Which means that a magnetic field should be a viable way to store it, but shroom_monk doesn't seem to agree with me that a couple of electromagnets would be powerful enough.
I think I need to try to build an even more powerful magnet.

Scientists thought of it, disproved it, and moved on.

Antimatter is highly tangible.

Cheaper rocket alternative:

Acetic acid dissolved in H20, mixed with equal part sodium bicarbonate will react violently, and when contained, will create a pretty powerful explosion.

We once used this formula in grade school to launch a film roll canister nearly five feet into the air. Low Earth orbit (about 500,000ft) shouldn't be that far off; just raid your local grocery stores. CAUTION: this is very dangerous - take necessary precautions when dealing with high explosives. Wear safety goggles.

So, for people who've been wondering what happened to this project, I decided it would be irresponsible to go through with it.
I actually started designing and planning a Tokamak, but realized that the funds and time required to build such a thing is... not easily procured.
And given the quantities of antimatter I was thinking of producing, it would have been several orders of magnitude stronger than the bomb that detonated in Oslo in July, if it were to ever come in contact with matter.
